The water is cooling down, and the fishing is heating up. Streamer season is here, and we’ve been seeing some great fish lately.

Here are the flies and rigs we’re reaching for this October.

Streamers:

As water temperatures drop, fish are looking for a bigger meal. These patterns are great options for targeting aggressive fish this time of year.

• Hot Head Leech
• Sparkle Minnow
• Thin Mint
• Balanced Leech

Dry Flies & Dry-Dropper:

Dry dropper rigs are still the go-to. Most eats are coming on the dropper early in the day. As the day warms up, we’re seeing some great dry fly action. Using light tippet while water levels are low.

• Zebra Midge

Nymph Rigs:

Targeting deeper pools? A nymph rig is a great option. Make sure your flies are getting down into the feeding zone.

🎣 Front Range Anglers Kids Fly Fishing Camp 2027

Registration is now open! Our kids’ camps sold out quickly last summer, so we’re opening registration early to give families the best chance to secure a spot for 2027.

Hosted on local Boulder waters, our co-ed camps welcome kids ages 8–14 of all experience levels. From casting and knot tying to catching fish and learning about aquatic insects, campers will build skills, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
