Hot Rod 6 Strings HotRod6Strings: Custom and Theme hand built guitars. Custom repairs, Vintage and one of a kind parts

09/10/2026

Everything on this wall was built in our wood shop, by the hands of Chris Tatalias.

Tatalias Guitars has been hand built in Brookfield, Connecticut since 2007. Chris walks the whole wall in this one.

The Blue Aged Relic R3 and the British Racing Green R3, both running Tatalias Spin Split electronics. That one's fun to explain. You can blend the humbuckers down toward single coil, so one guitar covers way more ground than it looks like it should. Then the Legacy Series EX with a light relic on it.

The goldtop prototype already sold as soon we hung it on the wall...we can make more. That's how it goes sometimes.

The Life Is Beautiful build signed by all the members of Living Colour

You'll also catch a photo on the wall of the Tatalias he built for Vernon Reid, Andy Powell, Todd rundgren, and many more legendary musicians. Chris has put guitars in some serious hands over the years.

In stock now. Come play them.

Over 20 guitars on the floor right now. Electrics and acoustics.

Jackson. Les Paul. EVH Wolfgang. ESP. Bass. Dean. Kramer. A Gretsch 6120 with a gold Bigsby. A custom Tele style build. And a lot more Chris walks through in the video.

Here's what makes buying one from us different. Every guitar on our floor goes across the bench before it goes home. Fully inspected, properly set up, intonation and action dialed. You're not taking home something that needs work. You're taking home something that plays right the day you get it.

Come see them in person, or check what we've got online.

1983 Jackson. Neck-through, all original, low serial number, Kahler bridge.

It came in for a fret level and a proper setup. Level, crown, polish, dialed action and intonation. Electronics untouched except for reflowing a few solder joints to get it sounding right again. On an all original piece like this the job is knowing what to leave alone, and we left almost everything alone.

Condition is remarkable. Barely played, almost no stage time, one very minimal chip at the end of the point. That's it.

The history runs deep. December 1980, Randy Rhoads walked into Grover Jackson's shop with a sketch on a cocktail napkin. Grover thought the shape was too radical to carry the Charvel name, so he put his own name on the headstock instead. That's how Jackson became Jackson. Randy was gone before it ever became a production model.

And the Kahler bridge is a time stamp. Back then you couldn't get a Floyd Rose unless you were Kramer, they had the license locked up. So Jackson ran Kahlers. Cam design, barely any routing, locks behind the nut instead of at it.

This is the everyday around here. Fret levels, refrets, vintage restorations, setups, custom mods. We do four to five refrets a week and we treat a 1983 original the same way we treat your daily driver. Carefully.

Chris walks through the whole history in the video.

Thank you, Randy.

Friday at the shop. Somebody's testing the mod we applied for them, while the bench stays busy, we have custom builds in the woodshop... getting our own custom guitars ready for weekend gigs.

We don't just fix, mod, build, improve your guitar, we actually play & gig.

This is the everyday around here. Setups, mods, repairs, and getting your new axe dialed in.

We just revamped the site with more blogs, more guitar knowledge, and a real look at everything we do. If you want to dig into more of how we do this around here, link in bio.

The volume k**b on this bass was machined by Doyle of the Misfits.

By hand, in his own shop, back when Argyle Goolsby played bass in Doyle's band Gorgeous Frankenstein. Still rippin on the bat bass all these years later.

Argyle's the real deal, founder of Blitzkid, touring the US and the world. When he comes off the road, his gear comes to us. On the bench with Louie: his live bat bass, designed by Argyle, hand built in London by Iron Lung Guitars, bat inlay at the 12th. He rolls with a few, a live one, a recording one, and a clear acrylic one that'll stop you dead.

Touring pros, vintage rescues, your beat-up daily guitar. Same bench, same care.

Stay till the end.

On the bench: a Gibson from the Demo Shop, and it's a beauty.

Tip of the day from Chris. That plastic nut most guitars ship with holds you back. We swapped it for a real bone nut. Better tone, better tuning stability, better sustain. Small part, big difference.

We do all kinds of mods at Hot Rod every day. DM us.

Todd Rundgren plays a guitar built in Brookfield, Connecticut.

Chris Tatalias started it in 2018. When Todd played Woodstock, New York, Chris brought the finished guitar to the show and put it in his hands. It has been in your with him and will be on his new record.

Carved, shaped and finished entirely by hand. The artwork runs across the front, the back and the headstock, signed by the artist in 2018. There will never be a second one.

Todd played recently at the Ridgefield Playhouse, where Chris went to go see his friend play live, this past weekend. Todd's Tatalias Guitar, is in Kauai right now, being recorded on his new album.

Every Tatalias is built the way this one was. One at a time, by hand, in Connecticut.

Come by the shop and see for yourself.

No CNC is going to do this.

That step you feel on most set necks where the neck joins the body? That's the machine's limit. A CNC leaves it because it can't carve the joint clean. Chris does it by hand, the only way that actually works.

Want a set neck to feel like a neck through? The joint has to be carved by hand.

This is why we build by hand, one at a time, in Brookfield, CT.

DM us to build yours.

Tatalias Sunset Strip, Hollywood Blvd. Built for the Strip. One k**b, no apologies.

Baretta-style body, but don't let the one k**b fool you, it's a dual humbucker. Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge, Bill Lawrence 500XL in the neck.

3-piece alder, hand built in our shop. Original Floyd Rose with D-Tuna. Custom art nitro distressed finish. Raw unfinished neck back. Shaved heel and relief-cut horn for clean upper fret access.

Stay tuned, Chris demos it at the end.

$1,950. One of one. This one moves fast.
