Piston dome and chamber fit are a very important ingredient in making power, as are valve pocket depths. If the pockets are too deep you give up compression and efficiency. When machining pistons from blanks we carefully calculate our needed piston to valve and machine them accordingly. Running the clearances close to minimum always seems to yield more power. But always stay within safe tolerences for your engine combination. Camshaft design also comes into play when calculating this. The dome and chamber fit often has the greatest effect on power. A proper fit improves flame travel, maintains compression and delivers stronger more consistent power. This is all in my opinion!
