A day in the life of a bookstore owner is NEVER just selling books. 😂📚

We’re unboxing new releases, restocking your favorites (because y’all have been BUYING UP Colin Kaepernick’s book!), keeping inventory in check, chatting with our book fam, refreshing the mannequins, and getting the shelves together. And just when you think we’re done? We’re transforming the bookstore for an evening event!

Bookseller by day, inventory manager by lunch, interior stylist by afternoon, event planner by night. You get the picture. 😂

We ended the evening hosting the Chicago Chapter of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, and we loved having them in the space! Black librarians and students studying library science, TAP IN with your local chapter!

This is what it looks like to build a bookstore, serve our community, and keep things moving at Da Book Joint. Come see us!

What an AMAZING afternoon at Da Book Joint! We’re still thinking about the powerful conversations, gems, and necessary information shared during Dr. Ian Smith’s book signing for The New Menopause Kitchen!

From what we as women can do and eat to better support our bodies through menopause to how the men in our lives can show up for us during this transition, this conversation was full of knowledge we all needed to hear. Because understanding menopause shouldn’t be something women have to navigate alone!

And listen… we were HONORED to have so many greats in the building, including our moderator, THE Cheryl Burton! She’s really HER! The way she guided this conversation was everything!

We’re so grateful to create space for these important conversations right here in Chicago, especially on the South Side. This is what Da Book Joint is all about: bringing people together, sharing knowledge, and making sure our community has access to the conversations and resources we deserve.

A huge thank you to Dr. Ian Smith, Cheryl Burton, and everyone who came out to be part of this special afternoon. Y’all made it one to remember!

This Sunday, we’re making room for creativity, self-expression, and putting pen to paper at Let the Pen Speak: Creative Writing Workshop!

Join Slim with the Pen at Da Book Joint for an afternoon of writing prompts, creative exercises, community, and inspiration. Whether you’re a seasoned writer, a poet, or somebody with a notebook full of thoughts you haven’t quite figured out how to express, there’s a seat for you here.

We’ll also be joined by featured poets Ms Mama’s Pen and Jeronimo Speaks, sharing their words and creative voices with us!

No pressure. No judgment. And you don’t have to share your writing if you don’t want to. Just bring yourself and let the words flow.
