Da Book Joint's mission is to provide an extensive selection of African-American authors, including those writing Christian, children and young adult titles. Poetry readings, story time and other events are also available to expose our community to various arts that encompass reading. "Where your pleasure in reading will be satisfied" with a variety of tastes from a selection driven by demand. We

provide you with a choice of inspirational, motivational, educational and street seductive titles by some of the most intense and creative African-American authors, many of whom are national bestsellers. We also provide an outlet to aspiring, young African-American writers a chance to capture the attention of readers. Da Book Joint and our unlimited choice of literary art will attain the interest of all ages of those who love to read. We know we can not thank you enough for your time and support, but Da Book Joint will try to the best of our abilities to accommodate you. 📚 BOOK CLUB IS BACK! And this one is extra special because the author is joining us!

Our August Book Club pick is Savvy Summers and the Po’Boy Perils by Sandra Jackson-Opoku, and we’ll be gathering Saturday, September 12th at 6:30 PM to discuss it WITH Sandra herself in the room!

Savvy Summers and the Po’Boy Perils follows Savvy, the owner of a beloved soul food café on Chicago’s South Side, who is hired to cater a corporate luncheon featuring Creole-inspired dishes. But when a guest turns up dead, Savvy’s food AND her reputation come under suspicion. With the help of her assistant manager Penny, Savvy finds herself investigating a tangled web of secrets, workplace drama, and possible motives to uncover who is really responsible.

So get to reading, mark your calendars, and come ready with ALL your questions, thoughts, and theories. We’re talking characters, plot twists, themes, and everything in between!

Chicago, we’re welcoming home Captain Nia Gilliamfor an evening you do NOT want to miss.

A Chicago native, award-winning commercial airline pilot, co-founder of Sisters of the Skies, and author of Cleared for Takeoff, Captain Gilliam is sharing the powerful story behind her journey to the skies and the moments that challenged her to find her way back.

On September 11, 2001, Nia was a young pilot sitting in the cockpit at Newark Airport when she witnessed the tragedy unfolding from her plane. Her memoir takes us through that life-changing experience, her journey as a Black woman in aviation, motherhood, adversity, and ultimately rediscovering her purpose.

Join us for an evening of conversation, inspiration, and a story about what happens when your dreams are tested but you refuse to stop believing in them.
