Nadiya Martynenko Art-Nadiia (Chernihiv, Ukraine) is a renowned Ukrainian artist, whose distinctive style and mastery are instantly recognizable, and whose paintings are easy to love. She continually explores new themes and techniques, and mentors young artists, guiding and inspiring the next generation. Today, she has consciously chosen to remain and work in Ukraine.
Born in, 1956, in the village of Tovstolis in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, Nadiya Martynenko received her professional artistic education at the Mykola Samokysh Crimean Art College, where she studied painting and art education from 1975 to 1979.
Throughout her artistic career, Martynenko has developed a distinctive visual language in which decorative expression is balanced by philosophical depth. Her work explores the spiritual heritage of Ukraine, the image of woman as the guardian of ancestral memory, the continuity of generations, the beauty of nature, and the character of her native city. In Nadiya Martynenko’s work, this timeless spirit flows like a river - gentle yet powerful, ancient yet ever-renewing. It carries the energy of life and touches the soul of everyone who encounters her art. In 2005, Nadiia Martynenko became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Exhibitions have been an essential part of Martynenko's artistic career for more than three decades. Her solo exhibitions have been held in Chernihiv, Kyiv, Chernivtsi, Odesa, Slavutych, and other Ukrainian cities, as well as in Turkey, Austria, and the United States. In June 2026, her exhibition “Heritage: The Memory That Helps Us Live” was presented in Ukraine, offering a deeply personal reflection on cultural memory, family, and the enduring power of tradition.
Since 2023, Nadiya Martynenko's work has been represented in the United States by the Ukrainian Cultural Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting contemporary Ukrainian art and supporting artists who live and work in Ukraine. As part of this collaboration, her paintings have been exhibited at Gallery@First (Bedford, Massachusetts, September 2023), Loading Dock Gallery (Lowell, Massachusetts, February 2024), Abington Art Center (Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, May 2024), and Babson College (Massachusetts, October 2025).
Martynenko's works are held in museum collections, including the Lviv National Art Gallery, as well as in private collections throughout Ukraine and abroad, including Austria, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, Turkey, and other countries. A significant milestone in her international recognition came in 2025, when her painting The Angel Who Looked Through My Window was presented to the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, where it became part of the Institute's cultural and academic environment.
Nadiia Martynenko says: “I would like to express my gratitude to the people of the United States for their support in our struggle against the russian aggressor.
I would also like to add something that feels essential to me: in my view, the truest way to understand a nation and its traditions is through its culture.

As an artist who constantly challenges herself and is always searching for new means of expression, seeing my work resonate with audiences in the United States is profoundly meaningful to me”.
