Someone else’s success does not require your failure.
I think we need that reminder sometimes.
We’re taught to protect our ideas. Watch the competition. Keep our cards close. And when someone starts doing something even remotely similar to what we’re doing, our first instinct can be to put our guard up.
But what if we didn’t?
What if instead of looking across the table and seeing competition, we saw someone who might understand the exact thing we’re trying to figure out?
Yesterday I spent 90 minutes talking with Carmin, the founder of THE BEST HAIR TIES EVER ™️ , another woman building a hair tie company while I’m over here building AWAREties | hair ties that give back .
On paper, maybe we’re supposed to be competitors. In reality? That conversation filled my cup in a way I didn’t even realize I needed.
Because there is room for her to build something incredible AND for me to build something incredible. There is room for us to share what we’ve learned.
There is room to say, “Hey, I’ve been there. Here’s what helped me.”
There is room to cheer like hell for someone else while still chasing your own big, scary goals.
And I think that goes so far beyond business.
Sometimes the person you’re hesitant to reach out to might be the exact person who reminds you that the thing you’re struggling with isn’t insurmountable.
So…reach out.
Ask the question. Send the text. Make the call.
Take it from the Type A, firstborn-daughter Sagittarius who would rather figure out absolutely everything herself…
Sometimes asking for help is the strongest move you can make.
And Carmin, thank you for the reminder. I’m cheering HARD for Hair Deux. And I have a feeling this is only the beginning for both of us.
