Pack goats,

We ended up bringing 4 pack goats for the first time this trip.

It kept the boys from carrying anything but bino harnesses.

And when that arrow struck a lung, the goats packed out 135 pounds of meat.

Colorado high country can be brutal. But we may have found the cheat code to backcountry access with kids. While not having the headache of horses or mules.

September is back, and the memories are stacking!

Day pack essentials.

Not too heavy, but also well prepared.

The worst days in the back country can happen by leaving just one single item at home. Have a checklist.

Photograph what’s inside each dry bag so you know where it is, and that you have it.

A solid fixed blade, and a replaceable blade knife both make it in the pack specifically when carrying elk and bear tags.

We love sugar and all the snacks, but remember electrolytes/hydration is key at elevation with big efforts. AXO FUEL - An Axylum Outdoors Company long haul hydration is clutch for this.

Emergency fire kit is essential, water purification, gear repair kit, batteries, parachord and headlamps never get left home.

Don’t forget your damn spoon.

And last but not least, every good luck charm has its place.

Remember how short this season is and take every opportunity possible to make the most of it.

Sit at the campfire longer, we remember a lot more stories in the mountains disconnected from everyday life than we ever do at home/work.

Share your success, whether that’s your camp or the prize of a harvest give back to those who matter most.
