You can't tell a good cable from a bad one by looking at it. You have to look inside.

A tech firm recently ran X-ray CT scans on a lineup of USB-C cables — from a $5 no-name cord to Apple's $129 Thunderbolt 4 — and the insides told a story the packaging never would.

The cheap one: wires soldered straight to the pins, floating in plastic. No shielding, no circuit board, and only half the pins actually wired. It advertised 10 Gbps — it could really do about 480 Mbps. One pin fails and the whole cable is done.

The premium one: a stainless-steel shell, 24 pins on a 10-layer board, individually shielded wires, strain relief crimped from eight directions. Built to survive.

Now picture that logic inside a $1M AV system — hundreds of runs behind the walls of a boardroom, a command center, a courtroom. The cable you can't see is the one that fails the client at the worst possible moment.

It's why we don't guess. We spec to standard and test what we install — because the expensive part of an AV project isn't the cable. It's the one you have to open a wall to replace.
