Rediscover Records is an indie record shop in historic downtown Elgin. We specialize in vinyl, the best of freshest new releases from this year and the best of the classics. We carry preowned records in 33, 45, and 78rpm formats. Prices for preowned records start at $1 and the average price is $5-$15, though there are a few exceptions if collectible. We participate in Record Store Day!

Turn in BFRSD requests by Oct 15th 2026. Black Friday Record Store Day is November 27th! The list of titles is up at record store day dot com. We have it linked in our bio!
▫️ DM your requests, an email ([email protected]), a simple text/ phone call will suffice at 847.961.8445 ☎️ or just pop into the shop! 📝
▫️ A few TL;DR details (but read em anyway, foooo!) . . . Your request does not hold/reserve your record. What it does it helps us with our order. It’s like you work here! This way we can bump up numbers on our existing order or add it to it.
▫️ Open promptly at 8am on BFRSD. Yes, there is usually a line waiting, but not too lengthy like April RSD.
▫️ First come, First Serve.
▫️ One item, per title per customer. With limited releases we want to try to get as many to as many different humans.
▫️ Our list of BFRSD inventory with quantities will go live on Thanksgiving Eve. Closed Turkey Day.
▫️ Thanks! The list looks pretty great as it spans several genres, eras, and landscapes of music!

Fun Fact! Philip Humber is the only pitcher to throw a perfect game on Record Store Day! April 21, 2012. Cray. There’s been only 24 Perfect Games in the history of Major League Baseball and it was from the most unlikely candidate. We have the White Sox vs Guradians game on the radio for others like us where the Baseball Nerd and Music Nerd Venn Diagram is almost a circle!
⚾️ Humber would finish with a career “RECORD” (get it?) of 16-23, a 5.31 ERA, and a 0.9 WAR.

The new Greta Van Fleet album PALACE FOR THE PEOPLE is coming on October 9 but the palaces known as record stores are letting the people hear it first — on Monday October 5!
