Starling is a massively underutilized fly tying material.
In this video, Simon ties a simple, but effective jigged nymph utilizing a starling collar.
Starling has soft barbs & barbules that branch off of a correspondingly soft rachis or center shaft. This creates movement and allows the fly@to be dead drifted or swung.
The other great thing about starling feathers is that each feather is pre-sized for smaller hooks. No more digging through a bag of feathers or a skin for the right small feather.
