Back in 2010, when I was making one of my trips to Taiwan, I came across this batch of Ancient Tree Da Du Gang—pressed in 2000, with a decade of Taiwan storage already behind it. I was eager to add some quality old-tree puer to the J-TEA collection, so I brought it back to Oregon.

For years, I stored it in an old cabin up in the McKenzie River Valley. My tea teacher recommended the spot once he found out I had such a place. The room where the tea lived smelled incredible—like Christmas, pungent and spiced. Similar to the pine forest just outside, but richer, more complex. That’s what a large volume of puer sitting in the upstairs of a rustic cabin smells like. The smell communicated the tea’s energy and its transformation.

But when the wildfire seasons got heavier, I made the call to move the whole collection back to the teahouse. Wasn’t about to lose this tea to fire season.

Now it’s here: 26 years of natural aging. Transformed by time. Smooth, complex, nourishing. The kind of tea that rewards you cup after cup.

Remember that YouTube video about our ancient tree puer sampler? It’s finally live on the website.

You can now get an 18g sample of each tea. Fair warning: the retail value of these teas will give you sticker shock. But here’s the advantage—I sourced these long ago, before they appreciated so much. That means I can offer them at a price that’s more reasonable (though still expensive).

What makes these special:
These teas create a sense of euphoria and operate outside of “tea” as we typically know it. Trust me, they’re different.
