This is exactly why we’re open 7 days a week. 🤎

Most of downtown may be quiet this Sunday, but inside the Marketplace, you never quite know when a special little moment is about to happen.

This sweet boy has played our piano before. He knew exactly what he was doing — sat down, played for a while, and when he was finished, carefully turned it off and closed the lid.

No prompting. No performance. Just a little musician who knew the piano was there to be played.

When we created Exeter 1892 Marketplace, we never wanted it to be just a store. We wanted it to feel like a gathering place in the middle of our little Hallmark town — somewhere you can wander, linger, color at the kids’ table, run into a neighbor, or sit down at the piano because the mood strikes you.

The piano is always open.

And if we had been closed today, we would have missed this. 🎹

Sometimes the sweetest parts of a business are the moments you could never plan.

🚨Parents: please teach & remind your kids not to vandalize.

We had this little picnic table custom built so children visiting Exeter 1892 Marketplace would have a place to sit, color, and create while their families shopped. We want kids to feel welcome here.

This is what was happened.

A group of older kids covered the table with profanity, racial slurs, obscene comments, and other inappropriate writing. What was created as something special for younger children is now damaged to the point that it has to be removed.

What makes this especially disappointing is that we were just recently asked to provide kids’ games and activities for Exeter’s Fall Festival — and we were happy to do it. We want to be the kind of business that contributes to our community and gives families a little more than simply a place to shop.

But this is how those thoughtful extras disappear.

This isn’t about a few scribbles on a table. It’s about teaching kids that property belonging to someone else deserves respect — and that their actions can take something away from everyone who comes after them.

Please know where your kids are. Please talk to them about how they behave when they’re in our downtown businesses and community spaces.

We love having families and kids at the Marketplace.

We just expect them to treat the space — and our community — with respect.

Friday night heads up from Exeter 1892 Marketplace:

We are OPEN tonight until 9 PM, but Pine Street directly in front of the Marketplace was unexpectedly closed today for tree trimming, and we were not given advance notice.

At this time, we have no information on when the street will reopen, so please plan accordingly if you’re heading downtown tonight. Parking may take a little extra time, but we are here and open.

We also do not yet know whether Pine Street will remain closed tomorrow, so please keep an eye on our stories for any updates as we receive them.

Friday is one of the biggest days of the week for our downtown businesses, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who makes the extra effort to continue shopping, dining and supporting downtown Exeter when unexpected disruptions like this happen.

THE EXETER BLANKET IS HERE — and it may be our favorite Marketplace exclusive yet. 🐻

TONIGHT, TULARE COUNTY SHOWS UP FOR OUR KIDS. ⚔️

This is the night we have been praying for.

Tonight, pastors from across Tulare County will gather together in Exeter — with every church in Exeter represented — to pray over our students and the people who will walk beside them through this school year.

Students. Parents. Teachers. Coaches. School staff. Homeschool families.

This is bigger than one church. Bigger than one denomination. Bigger than one town.

For one night, we are coming together as one community with one mission: to make sure the people walking into this new school year know they do not have to walk into it carrying fear, uncertainty or anxiety alone.

We are going to pray over them. Encourage them. Strengthen them. And send them into this year ARMED UP with the full armor of God.

We want our kids walking onto campus knowing:

I am prayed for.
I am supported.
I am not alone.
I am ready.

And teachers, parents and coaches — we want to pray over you too.
