Part Zwei: The Ludzter Knows How to Party!

The first “Oktoberfest” well…..wasn’t! It was a celebration of the marriage of Bavaria’s Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen on October 12, 1810.

All of Munich was invited to a celebration that lasted til the 17th, when a horse race 🏇🏇🏾🏇 capped off the event!

The Ludzter became a footnote in history, but that horse race!! ❤️🏇🏇🏾❤️

THAT became an annual event, 🎉 raced every year on Theresienwiese—“Therese’s Meadow”, the name it holds to this day! And that annual event, at that very spot, changed beer history!

King said “If I get any cuter, you’ll need to give me two beers!” His Majesty settled for a nice, warm Chicken Porter.

Chloe said “I’m an old dog, teach me a new trick!” That beautiful 15 yo puppy flipped for a Chicken Porter as well!

It’s a throwback Thursty Thursday!

It hasn’t always been easy!

When I opened Zima Czar back in ‘96 I literally held the future in the palm of my hand!

Things were going swimmingly until a clove cigarette brushed against a Dave Matthews CD, creating a spark that ignited the whole store! 🔥🥺🔥

Thankfully it was a slow Monday! We’ve closed every Monday since in memory of that tragic event.

Then, as now, we offered 10% off those citrusy sensations every Thursday at Beer Man!

It’s Whatsnew Wednesday - where we boast, you Prost!🍻

Locals, locals, locals!

We proudly carry Märzens and Festbiers from Edmund's Oast, Fam's Brewing, Commonhouse, Holy City, Munkle, and Charlestowne Fermentory with more on the way, including Indigo Reef’s Sharktoberfest!

Westbrook raises the bar with both beers and their annual bangers Costume Party (an 11% liquid Snickers) and Graveyard Shift (an amazing DDH IPA)!

Of course we have many of their other beers and a sea of authentic German Oktoberfest beers!

You’ll always find the most to Prost at Beerman!

Part Eins: Which Came First, the Party or the Beer?

Märzenbier (literally March Beer) was first brewed in 1553 when Bavaria passed a law saying you could NOT brew beer between St George’s Day (4/23) and St. Michael’s Day (9/29) for fear that warm weather would spoil the beer!

NEVER tell a German they CANNOT brew beer!

Brewers made well hopped, stronger beers in March and lagered them all summer long in caves packed with straw and snow.

When St. Michael’s Day arrived in fall, remaining Märzens were often consumed in fall festivals celebrating the return of beer!

But what about Oktoberfest? That was still a few centuries away!
