I can’t believe it has been 25 years. I was sitting on a plane headed to India, waiting to take off, when everything changed. I was lucky enough to get off the plane and into one of the last cars out of the city before the airport, bridges and roads began to close. I still remember the calls to friends and loved ones who were downtown. The days of not knowing. The families holding onto every bit of hope that someone they loved might still come home.
Twenty-five years later, what stays with me is not only the unimaginable loss, but the way people showed up for one another. The community that was built in those days still shows up today—remembering, honoring and keeping the stories of those we lost alive.
And on a much lighter but always bittersweet note, my poor stepmother has had to share her birthday with this day for the last 25 years. ❤️
Today, we remember. We honor. And we hold our loved ones a little closer.
