I decided to share some information on using artificial lighting to grow African violets. People often ask: "What should the distance between shelves be?", "What kind of lamps and wattage do you use?", and "How long should the lights stay on?" Let’s go through it step by step 🌸
1) Over the years of growing my collection, I’ve concluded that the ideal distance between shelves is 40 cm (or 50 cm for large rosettes on a wick-watering system).
2) I use LED lamps. For 120x60 cm shelves, I use two 16-watt Barrina lamps (with a color temperature of 6500K)—either 120 cm or 80 cm long.
3) The lights for the entire collection run for exactly 12 hours. I use a smart plug to automate turning the lights on and off (this is very convenient if I need to go away for a few days).

🌱 How we plant a violet leaf:

🌸 1. Select a violet leaf for propagation.
🌸 2. Take a sharp blade and be sure to disinfect it with alcohol. I use a 75% antiseptic solution.
Trim the leaf stalk. You don't need a very long stalk—about 3–4 cm is sufficient.
🌸 3. Fill a small cup halfway with "Pro-Mix HP" substrate that has been thoroughly mixed and loosened.
🌸 4. You can lightly dip the tip of the stalk into a rooting agent. We use "TakeRoot."
🌸 5. Place the stalk into the soil and press down gently so it holds securely and doesn't wobble. Don't forget to label the variety!
🌸 6. Water lightly—just enough to moisten about 1 cm of the soil. Over time, the moisture will gradually distribute throughout the cup.
🌸 7. Place the cutting in a mini-greenhouse: cover it with a lid or place it inside a zip-lock bag.
🌸 8. Put it on a shelf under a grow light.
🌸 9. And in about 15–20 days, you’ll see the first roots appearing against the sides of the cup! 🌱
And now, a little bit about the "star" of today's photos.
Posing in these shots is one of the new varieties in our collection -
240 K's - Ayla Ann (K. Hejner).
By the way, we currently have leaf cuttings of this variety for sale.
The photo was taken at the AVSA convention in Dallas.
The plant was grown by breeder
Kathy Hejner—a huge thank you to her for this beauty! 👏👏👏
We were delighted to meet her in person; her magnificent varieties will now hold a place of honor in our collection 💜

GV-Thyme (GV-Чабрец)
This is our new variety, derived from "AV-Skazochnye Georginy" (Fabulous Dahlias). It is currently undergoing verification: we have planted numerous leaves to confirm its varietal characteristics.
We are thrilled with this new variety—it is stunning. Our whole family loves thyme tea, so as soon as we saw this flower, we immediately gave it that name.
What do you think—does the name suit it?

005 AV-Damask Rose (АВ-Дамасская Роза)- I absolutely love this variety! It blooms readily and quite quickly. And the color is exactly the shade I love most: a delicate lilac. 💜

There is one small drawback, though: over time, the flowers fade and lose their vibrancy. But once you remove them, the plant strives to bloom again with renewed vigor. 🌸

Shelving units, tools, pots, trays, furniture, and other accessories are disinfected to eliminate all microorganisms and larvae, thereby preventing re-infestation.
Industrial disinfectants typically contain a blend of alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, and detergents.
After using such products, it is important to thoroughly rinse the treated surfaces with plenty of clean water to completely remove any harmful residues.
I recently discovered an excellent product that helps me keep my African violet growing area clean, and I would like to share some information about it with you. You simply spray it on and wipe the surface—it works wonderfully, ensuring complete sterility.
