Hand Wound Guitar and Bass Pickups, Pickup restoration/repair
Custom Pickup Fabrication. Recent Review:
Today I had the pleasure of taking a pair of "Ghostbuckers" on a test ride. Switching between my beloved seventy's les paul with a stock ( T Style ) gibson neck position pick up and a duncan alnico II in the bridge bridge position. It was very fair to compare my mid 70's paul with bobby's mid 7
0's les paul. It was also very fair to compare the two guitars by quickly switching back and forth betwee...n my guitar and bobby's with identical settings through a restored 68 fender super reverb amp packed with fresh tubes, without distortion. The Ghostbuckers sounded huge and muscular. Volume is not everything, still cant deny "I WANT THAT" and expect it if i am going to make the switch. I have noticed some pickups loose some of the guitars woody character if the pickups are too hot. Much to my pleasure, that was not my observation here. The pickups sounded very "musical" and had/have a sweet chime that is surprising for humbucker's. Every note rang with bell like clarity and I could easily squeeze a single note out of a cord and raise its voice. Low/medium output pickups like mine are good but after hearing Tone Master's Ghostbuckers with more output and richness, i had to ask myself, why i would not want that extra output when the sound overall is enhanced. Anyone who knows about pickups knows that hand wound pickups are superior and more complex than machine wound picks, YES they are all that!!! We also know, that not one hand wound pickup is ever exactly the same. Too many people continue to look beyond their fingers, the guitar and the pickups for there tonal fingerprint when the answerer is actually in their hands! a great guitar with great pickups and a great amp. Oh yea don't forget a great guitar cord, I use switchcraft. If you are serious about you tone, You would want to check TONE MASTER PICKUPS! This is only my first test, next we will fire up the super with my tube screamer. Just waiting for the coast to clear.
