Native Plants In Stock
๐ฆ๐ Why Plant Native Plants? ๐๐ฆ
๐ Many native plants are used as host plants for Caterpillarsโ host plants are the plants butterflies lay their eggs on and the plants their caterpillars eat after hatching. Without host plants, there would be no caterpillars... and without caterpillars, there would be no butterflies! ๐ฆ
๐โก๏ธ๐ฆ Every butterfly garden should have both nectar plants AND caterpillar host plants. By planting host plants, you're helping support butterflies through every stage of their amazing journey.

Native Plant of the Week: Brown Eyed Susan
Rudbeckia trilobaโs many common names include Brown-Eyed Susan, Branched Coneflower, Thin-Leaved Coneflower and Three-Lobed Coneflower. The plantโs dark green alternate leaves are slightly hairy and are divided into three oval parts, hence the species name 'triloba'.
While it prefers moderate moisture, Brown-eyed Susan tolerates most conditions, including drought, once it is established. A short-lived perennial, it self-seeds readily and flowers in its second year. Tt is such a profuse self-seeder and it may overwhelm small landscapes so be aware if placing it in a small wildflower garden. Maroon stems support abundant bright yellow flowers which are flat, one to two inches across, with jet black centers that fade to brown. Blooming from late summer until hard frost, Brown-eyed Susan reaches two to five feet tall and becomes bushy if not crowded by other plants. It makes an excellent cut flower and complements any of the tall native grasses and common prairie wildflowers.
