“The Great Bunny Hunt.”
It started with cleaning rods. When 2LT Jack Price couldn’t get M16 cleaning rods through normal supply channels, he went straight to C**t and got them delivered to the jungle. The men of B Co, 173rd Airborne, took note. If their LT could pull that off, they had a bigger mission for him.
They pooled their money, wrote Hugh Hefner, and asked him to send the Playmate of the Year to a combat zone in Vietnam.
In January 1966, Jo Collins landed at Bien Hoa. She walked hospital wards, held hands with wounded soldiers, and stood beside dirty, exhausted paratroopers fresh off a ten-day operation. The bunny ended up painted on a Huey. The Huey went back to war.
A tribute to the men who needed a reminder that home still existed, and to the ones who never made it back.
