Just under 29" of South Holston brown trout. A lifetime fish, and a lifetime eat that nearly knocked the wind out of both Jeff and me.

This fish swam through a 5" drunk and disorderly on the second big change up pause, 6-8 steady walks off the bank in frog water, about 15 feet from the boat, a foot under the surface.

I will for sure revisit this one, but for now:

Congrats to a very deserving, diligent, humble, and all around beast of angler, who has played this game with the right attitude and approach since he started fishing with me and Matt Reilly 3 years ago...maybe 4 now.

Where and how we fish is no accident, and as many times as it doesn't happen - which is most of the time - this is the result of continuing to do what needs to be done.

Some people have it, and Jeff is one of em.

Alex hooked up with a solid striper on both days. The day before this fish, he had a boatside eat, then the fish forced slack line when it doubled back after it's first screaming run.

Kept this one tight as it was peeling out backing in the 9th inning of day 2.

Couple big browns blowing flies out of the water and some other follows that never committed made the game of inches feel like a grind, but boy is it one that I love.

Had to work for some good ones and lose a few in the process, but what a day!

The big striper clobbered a 4" drunk and disorderly in a mid river trough near a tail out, while the brown ate a peanut envy through the surface boat side at the end of a retrieve...pump fake dangling sealing the deal after sniffing the bank with the cast.

After a hot start with 4 or 5 eats, a couple from good fish, we had giant sun keeping some hot banks and w**d beds quiet.

The guys kept the faith, fished well, and hard, then a bite window cracked open for a couple hours, during which multiple browns came screaming through the surface eating streamers and coming unbuttoned, one ate a swinging drunk in a skinny tail out without us realizing until it was too late, a 22" brown and good size striper made it to the net, a schoolie showed up, and a second big striper nearly hit the boat as it came up to a fly leaving the water.

8 year old got a boat side jerk bait demolition by a 22" brown trout on a half day father son float.

Dad made some nice browns eat a few variations of drunk and disorderlies, including a mini triple and standard that have both been walking all over the Watauga.

Low(ish) and muddy can be wild, just have to know where everything is...

Last weekend kicked off with a double Friday - headwater musky in the morning followed by tailwater streamers and mousing in the afternoon into night.

That day and the next couple, we saw high water, low water, muddy water and hot bite windows
