In Recognition of Respiratory Care Week: Sharing a Story About the Difference Respiratory Therapists Make in Patients’ Lives
This story highlights how multiple teams came together, led by a respiratory therapist, to deliver on a shared goal: helping a patient receive the home ventilator therapy prescribed by their care team, from the comfort of their home, exactly when they needed it.
A patient required home ventilator therapy, but obtaining approval involved complex coordination across multiple providers and care settings. PHM Account Representative Eugene Ofori-Addo, RT, served as the central point of coordination, bringing together PHM’s clinical, operations, and reimbursement teams while working closely with the hospital team and the patient’s primary care provider. By coordinating clinical documentation, maintaining consistent communication, and keeping everyone aligned throughout the process, Eugene and the PHM team helped keep the patient’s care moving forward.
Their efforts resulted in approval for the patient’s home ventilator therapy. It was a success made possible through the combined expertise of the hospital team, the patient’s primary care provider, and PHM, each working together to overcome barriers and help the patient receive the prescribed therapy at home.
For the patient and family, the approval meant they could move forward with the care they needed. For everyone involved, it was a reminder of what’s possible when experienced teams work together with a shared commitment to the patient.
This is what Respiratory Care Week and PHM’s Patients First mindset is all about: bringing together expertise, persistence, and partnership to help patients navigate complex care with confidence.
One patient, multiple providers, and one shared goal: helping a patient receive the home ventilator therapy prescribed by their care team.
