Monday Bloom > Hypericum

Pronunciation: hy-PAIR-ih-kum
Season: Summer to fall
Family: Hypericaceae
Region: Native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa

Meaning | Symbolism: Hypericum symbolizes protection, positivity, and resilience. Its clusters of colorful berries represent abundance and lasting beauty, making it a favorite for adding meaning and texture to arrangements.

Fun Fact: In floral design, Hypericum is loved primarily for its berries rather than its flowers. The berries come in an incredible range of colors—including red, burgundy, peach, pink, green, and white—and add beautiful texture to bouquets.

Care Tip: Trim stems at an angle and remove any foliage below the waterline. Place in fresh, clean water and change every 2–3 days. Hypericum is naturally long-lasting, but keeping it cool and away from direct sunlight will help the berries stay plump and vibrant.

Just because a rose is open doesn’t mean it isn’t fresh 🌹

One of the biggest misconceptions about roses is that a tight rose is fresh and an open rose is old — but that’s not necessarily true.

Different rose varieties open at different rates. Some naturally open very quickly and can stay beautifully open for days, while others remain tighter and slowly unfurl throughout their vase life. How open a rose is isn’t, by itself, an indication of freshness.

What can make a difference is how much we manipulate the flower.

🌹 Reflexing, for example, is a floral design technique where we gently turn rose petals outward to create a fuller, more dramatic shape. We love using it when a design calls for it, but manipulating delicate petals can make them more susceptible to bruising, tearing, or damage.

That’s why we don’t force every bloom open.

Instead, we design with flowers at different stages — some tighter, some naturally opening, and some fully open. This creates depth and movement while allowing your arrangement to continue changing and blooming at home.

A tight rose isn’t necessarily fresher, and an open rose isn’t necessarily older. Knowing the variety, understanding how it naturally blooms, and knowing when to intervene is all part of floral design. ✨

The best part? Watching your arrangement evolve. 💐

Fun Fact: Chamomile belongs to the same family as daisies and sunflowers. Its tiny yellow centers and white petals give it a delicate, meadow-like appearance, while its sweet, apple-like fragrance makes it especially charming in bouquets.

Care Tip: Trim stems at an angle and place in fresh, clean water. Remove any foliage below the waterline and change the water every 2–3 days. Keep chamomile in a cool spot away from direct sunlight and heat to help preserve its delicate blooms.
