Today marks the opening of our newest exhibition, Birds of a Feather by Christine Beals & Michelle Detering!

On display now through October 31, Birds of a Feather is a contemporary exploration of avian creatures in the natural world. Through their respective mediums, artists Christine Beals and Michelle Detering depict birds as subjects worthy of delicate study, and place careful emphasis on the presentation of shape, color, and form.

The opening reception for this exhibition will be held on September 10 from 5:30-7pm, and we hope you’ll join us in welcoming these artists to the gallery!

With the end of August comes the end of our current exhibition, Artistic Spectrum: Diverse Expressions by ART/5.

One of our favorite things about hosting multiple artists within one exhibition is the rich visual journey the works offer when presented together. In weaving the work of this collective into one display, we were struck by how clearly each artist’s individual expression was articulated as the viewer moved from piece to piece, artist to artist.

All in all, we’re grateful to the members of ART/5 for allowing us to host their work. Thank you as well to everyone who took the time to explore the pieces in this show!

Last week, during our final Live Music Thursday of the summer, we undertook a little art project. Since our good friends over at Downtown Lansing Inc. were closing down our block for their Downtown After 5 event, we thought it’d be the perfect opportunity to make the crosswalk right outside our front door a little more colorful.

Once we got the stencils laid out, over 20 people stopped by and picked up a brush. Some were there for Live Music at the gallery, others were on their way to yoga, and a few were simply passing through on their way home from work. Getting this done was a real community effort, which is fitting since the design references a few different businesses on our block (cheers to our friends The Peanut Shop and Firefly Hot Yoga Studio).

Thank you to everyone who offered a helping hand and shared our enthusiasm for this community art project! 🫶🏼

Barb Whitney has been a friend of the gallery for many years now, and we were so pleased to host her this past Thursday!

Thank you to everyone who came to our Meet the Artist event to chat with Barb and admire her work. We love creating opportunities for art lovers to come connect with the artists whose works line our walls and fill our shelves.

That’s a wrap on Live Music Thursdays for the summer! Shoutout to Pinter Whitnick for helping us end the season with style. We’re always glad to have you back!

Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy summer in downtown Lansing with us. Whether you stopped in once or came week after week, we’re grateful for every person who joined us to support local musicians and showcase all the cool things happening in our downtown neighborhood.

MSU Core Faculty member Barb Whitney is joining us for a Meet the Artist event on Thursday, August 20th!

From 3-6:30pm we’ll have some new pieces from Barb on display. She will be around the gallery to answer any questions you have about her creative process, her Incredibly Human large-scale art series, or her master insight into working with alcohol ink.

This event is coinciding with our last Live Music Thursday of the summer, so what more excuse do you need to swing by the gallery on Thursday? We hope to see you there!
