Located at 1010 Main Street in the historic downtown district of Lexington, Missouri, River Reader resides in a renovated Queen Anne building, constructed circa 1886. Serving the community since 2004, River Reader is many things to a small community: A social gathering place, home to several book clubs, a source for espresso drinks and freshly baked treats, a place to browse for books and toys, an

d a place for personal help and advice for all things involving reading. As an independent bookstore, we choose our own titles, decide what books to display, set our own hours of business, and coordinate our own events. We are involved with local schools and literacy causes, food pantries, and our troops overseas. It is challenging to be independent in a world of e-readers and big box stores, but the reward of doing our part locally is rewarding. We consider our shop a destination for anyone wanting to experience our passion for books in a historic building located in a small yet charming town.

📚🎉 SHE DID IT — ALL 33 BOOKSTORES! 🎉📚

We had a pretty exciting moment at River Reader Books today! 💕 A HUGE congratulations to our own favorite community member DeAnna for officially completing her Missouri Indie Bookshop Tour passport — visiting ALL 33 participating bookstores! 🙌📖🚗

DeAnna, thank you for letting River Reader Books be part of the final chapter of your adventure! We have absolutely loved following along as you traveled across Missouri, discovered incredible independent bookstores, collected stamps, made memories with family and friends, and celebrated a shared love of BOOKS. ❤️

And we couldn't agree more with something DeAnna shared about her journey: books and travel both have an amazing way of opening our worlds. They help us explore, learn, grow, build empathy, and experience people and places beyond our own little corner of the world. 🌎📚

Seeing those passports come through our door has been SO MUCH FUN, but there's something extra special about seeing one filled with all 33 stamps! 🥹👏

Congratulations, DeAnna! What an accomplishment — and what an adventure! We hope you came home with a few new favorite bookstores, plenty of new books, and some wonderful memories along the way.

As summer winds down and school routines return, River Reader Books will be adjusting to our back-to-school hours beginning August 1.

Monday: Closed
Tuesday–Saturday: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
Sundays: Closed—except for our Special Second Sunday each month!
