If you wear a prosthesis, chafing can be a regular occurrence. Heat, sweat, socket pressure, liner friction, and changes in residual limb volume all contribute to skin irritation, especially during long wear days or physical activity.

This article breaks down why amputees are more prone to chafing, what ingredients to look for in anti-chafing products, when to moisturize, and when recurring irritation may mean it’s time to call your prosthetist.

Residual limb care is an important part of everyday prosthetic comfort, and hot and cold therapy—now made convenient with the Amputee Essentials Resilience Therapeutic Liner—can be a helpful addition to that routine.

Cold therapy may help manage swelling, inflammation, and short-term discomfort, while heat therapy can support circulation, ease stiffness, and help relax muscles around the residual limb. The Resilience Therapeutic Liner makes it easier to apply hot or cold therapy more evenly than with a typical pack.

When it comes to healthcare, it's vital that we feel heard, respected, and involved. But microaggressions—whether they show up as dismissive comments, unsolicited assumptions, insensitive jokes, or providers talking over you—can damage trust and make it harder to advocate for your needs.

In this article, we break down how microinsults, microassaults, and microinvalidations can appear in healthcare settings, why they matter, and how you can respond calmly, set boundaries, and speak up for respectful care.

The unfortunate reality is that many amputees experience microaggressions in the healthcare industry, and this can create a hostile environment and undermine their sense of dignity and worth. These microaggressions can take many forms, from subtle invalidations and insults to more overt discriminati...

Depression and anxiety are common after limb loss, and research has shown that exercise can be a helpful tool for managing both.

But "exercise" doesn’t have to mean running a 5K or pushing through pain. It can look like seated yoga, hand cycling, swimming, gardening, wheelchair movement, physical therapy, or a short adaptive walk.

It’s about finding movement that works for your body now, building consistency slowly, and treating activity as part of your care plan—not another standard you have to "fail" or "pass."

If your prosthetic antiperspirant isn’t giving you the results you expected, the issue may be in how you apply it.

Residual limb skin needs a different approach than underarm skin because it's enclosed in a liner or socket for hours. Applying antiperspirant to damp skin, rushing the drying time, or using heavily fragranced products can lead to irritation and reduce effectiveness.

A few small changes can improve sweat control, skin comfort, and prosthetic fit.

Socket fit remains one of the biggest comfort challenges for many above-knee prosthesis users. Pressure points, residual limb volume changes, and day-to-day fit issues can affect everything from skin health to confidence while walking.

In 2024, Korean researchers introduced an AI-based prosthetic socket designed to help manage pressure and fit changes for above-knee amputees. As of 2026, this technology still appears to be in the research or prototype stage.

Researchers from the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) developed a new type of prosthetic socket that uses AI technology to help alleviate pressure-related discomfort. The smart prosthetic socket is customizable and automatically fills with air when it detects any space within.

We may have been conditioned to wait for others to notice our progress. But taking a moment to celebrate your own wins—whether big or small—can boost your confidence, motivation, and understanding of your abilities.

For prosthesis users, progress can look different from day to day. It could mean finishing a challenging rehab session one day and seeking support the next. However, every small step and win is significant, and acknowledging these moments can motivate you to take the next one.

Getting healthier doesn’t have to mean overhauling your entire routine overnight. Often, the most sustainable changes are the simplest: adding a 10-minute walk after meals, choosing more fresh foods, eating more fiber, taking movement breaks, limiting endless scrolling, and making time for connection and creativity.

For prosthesis users, these small habits can also support energy, comfort, mobility, and overall well-being, one manageable step at a time.
