The Philly Bookstore Crawl is coming to Bookish Notions this Saturday, August 22!

If you’re spending the day hopping between indie bookstores, make sure Media is on your route. We’ll have a full day of bookish fun waiting for you at 11 East State Street:

10–10:45 AM: Storytime for our littlest readers

2–4 PM: Meet & greet with YA author Lindsey Olsson, author of How to Drown a Witch. Stop by to meet Lindsey, chat about the book, and grab a signed copy!

All day: Spend $50+ and receive freebies while supplies last!

September is filled with lots of opportunities for conversation with bookish peers here at the store! We now have six book clubs across various genres. Our book clubs are free to attend & do not require any advance registration. You can come for just one month or every month-whatever works for you. Simply read the chosen book ahead of time (you can buy it at the store for 10% off if you’d like!) and arrive a little before the posted time to settle in. We’d love for you to join us at one, many, or all of the club events this month. Happy reading!

Thank you to everyone who joined us Monday night for History Book Club! We had a great discussion of Blitzed by Norman Ohler. We will meet again on Monday, September 14th at 7 PM to discuss Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. This book explores how geography, environment, and access to resources influenced the development of civilizations, challenging the idea that history is shaped by inherent differences between peoples.

Looking ahead to October 5th at 7 PM, we will be discuss Stiff by Mary Roach. This work showcases the author’s comedic relief and curiosity around the history, science, and real-world uses of human cadavers.

As a reminder, History Book Club typically meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 PM. We’d love to have you join us for our next discussion!

Thank you to everyone who joined us last Tuesday night for our New Fiction Book Club discussion of The Burning Side by Sarah Damoff.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 25th at 7PM to discuss Land by Maggie O’Farrell. Looking ahead, we’ll be reading Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk, which we’ll discuss on Tuesday, September 22th at 7PM.
