Through the Mimoma Heirloom Collection, I create blankets rich in family culture by hand. Measure. Cut. Sew. Embroider. My blankets stand the test of time meant to be passed down from one generation to the next.

When I think of the Juneteenth holiday and what it means to me, I think of my Grandmother Fannie Earle that led life with grace, strength, and determination to live a life of purpose. I also think of how she taught me at a young age to sew with a plastic needle and yarn so that I wouldn't stick myself.

Thankfully we have many things to keep her memory alive. As we look to the past, the stories of our ancestors are lost to time and the cruel reminders of slavery. Heirlooms although few in number help us to remember their courage, and belief that one day they would be free.

To my ancestors, thank you. Thank you for teaching me to keep going even in the face of adversity. We remember you this day for your resilience. Thank you.

So a little backstory: Before making this design, I created others with no problems. Bows..Birds you name it no problem. The moment I stitched "Trust God" everything that could go wrong did.

I said man something is fighting really hard to not allow this simple design to stitch out.

I was determined more than ever to get this done because more than ever we need this message.

Opening up is hard for me but if I can use my gift of embroidery to spread the Gospel, every post I make is like a little whisper from home to Trust Him.
