We have had so much fun this summer. ❤️

Our first birthday. Pride, Zootown, The Missoula Marathon, all happening right outside our door. Our first Garage Sale. Bookstore Romance Day. And River City Roots Fest is still coming up to officially send Summer 2026 out with a bang.

But fall is coming. 🍂

And fall means back to school, new schedules, new planners, freshly sharpened pencils, and apparently reorganizing our entire lives.

So while we're a little 😭 about summer ending, we're also a little 🤓 about getting organized for the new school year. Which means it's time to tell you about a few changes coming to FMC Books after Labor Day.

First: FMC Books will be closed Sundays AND Mondays.

We talked about cutting one of our book clubs to make the new schedule work. We stared at the calendar. We shuffled things around. We considered being reasonable.

But ultimately, we decided we'd rather keep them all. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

So! A couple of your clubs are moving:

🧟‍♀️ Exotic Tails is moving to Thursday evenings.
⚔️ Swords & Sheaths is moving to Saturdays.
📚 Our Wednesday clubs are staying right where they are.

We're also going to be looking for a little help from our book gremlins. Stay tuned for opportunities to suggest books and guest host book clubs. So if you've ever thought, "You know what FMC should make everyone read..."

And then there's the 10th month of 2026.

We don't know October.

We only know ACOTARBER. 🍁🔥✨

The Great ACOTAR Gathering. Craft Night. Release Day. And then, immediately after that's over: WICKER. Because apparently we enjoy chaos.

Hi. I’m Tara. It’s probably time I reintroduced myself.

I own FMC Books, which means somewhere along the way my job description became bookseller, accountant, event planner, buyer, marketer, furniture mover, professional email sender, occasional chaos coordinator, and person most likely to say, “I think we need to do another floor video.”

But before FMC Books, I was a reader.

The Outsiders and Bridge to Terabithia in elementary school. Go Ask Alice and Cassie in middle school. Flowers in the Attic and The Godfather in high school. And in the last few years, books that have made me think differently about power, s*x, relationships, identity, and what women are allowed to want.

The books have changed. So have I.

Stories have been my safe haven for as long as I can remember. They’ve given me places to hide, things to question, people to understand, permission to want more, and occasionally an absolutely unhinged fictional man to obsess over for 3 to 74 business days.

Eventually, all of that turned into FMC Books.

If you found us during Bookstore Romance Day, hi. Welcome. If you’ve been here since I was shipping books out of my basement, hi again. And if you’re somewhere in between, I’m really glad you’re here.

FMC Books is a romance-mostly bookstore, but the thing I’m most interested in building has always been bigger than books. I want this to be a place where stories turn into conversations, conversations turn into friendships, and people get to be a little more fully themselves.

So, that’s me.

We talk a lot about building community for readers. Now we want to make a little more room for the people giving us something to read. ❤️

If you can’t be writers, we can’t be readers. We’re really excited to figure out more ways FMC Books can support you while you create the worlds we can’t wait to live in.

The Salon is FREE. RSVP at the link in our bio so we know how many snacks to procure, then please SHARE THIS POST with the writers, editors, publishing people, critique-partner-seekers, and assorted literary weirdos in your life. We want to find our people.

On Sunday, August 23, FMC Books is hosting our first Author Salon, a free afternoon for Missoula’s romance and genre writers and the publishing professionals who support them. We’re talking WIPs, publishing challenges, resources, critique partners, editors, collaboration, and all the weird little problems that are much easier to solve when you know the right people.

We’ll also be introducing The Writers’ Room, our new fall program built around protected writing time, fewer distractions, and the radical luxury of having someone else handle the details for the day.

On October 28, the clubs are joining forces for a private screening of Wicker—because when a lonely woman commissions a husband made of wicker and things get increasingly weird, romantic, h***y, and existential… frankly, this feels like required FMC Books programming.
