South Carolina State Seal Uniform Button in rough shape, recently dug in Georgetown, SC, featuring a semi-rare "SCHUYLER . H & G . / NEW-YORK" backmark.
Backmark Details:
The Manufacturer: Founded in 1854, Schuyler, Hartley & Graham didn't make their own buttons. Instead, they were large-scale retailers who worked with well-known American factories such as Scovill and Steele & Johnson to produce buttons bearing the Schuyler brand mark.
The Date Range: This specific backmark variant dates exactly to the late 1850s (roughly Pre-Civil War 1857–1860), but is believed to have been worn by a Confederate soldier during the war based on the other SC buttons found on site
