☕ How to Build a Winter Tea Blend from Scratch
The Formula Every Herbalist Should Know
There is an art to a well-crafted herbal tea blend — and it's not guesswork.
Every great blend is a formula, built in layers. Once you understand the four layers, you can create endlessly — tailoring medicine to the person, the season, the moment.
Here's the framework:
1️⃣ THE BASE (50%) — Nourishing, high-volume, pleasant-tasting herbs that carry the blend
→ Tulsi, Lemon Balm, Oatstraw, Nettles, Red Clover, Raspberry Leaf
2️⃣ THE SUPPORT (30%) — Specific seasonal action
→ Elderberry, Rose Hips, Hawthorn Berry, Dried Ginger, Cinnamon chips
3️⃣ THE ACCENT (15%) — Aromatic depth and complexity
→ Spicebush berries, Cardamom, Peppermint, Licorice Root, Clove
4️⃣ THE MEDICINE (5%) — Potent actives used sparingly
→ Echinacea, Reishi powder, Ashwagandha powder
✨ A Complete Winter Blend — "Rooted & Warm":
• 4 parts Tulsi
• 2 parts Lemon Balm
• 2 parts Oatstraw
• 2 parts Dried Elderberry
• 1 part Rose Hips
• 1 part Cinnamon chips
• ½ part Dried Ginger
• ½ part Spicebush berries 🌿
• ¼ part Licorice Root
Steep 1 heaping tbsp per cup for 10-15 minutes, covered. Add honey.
⚠️ Why Cover the Cup?
Volatile oils — the aromatic, medicinal compounds — escape in steam. Cover your cup and keep the medicine in.
This is the kind of practical clinical knowledge we build into every lesson of our Holistic Health Practitioner Program — the small details that make the difference between good medicine and great medicine. 🌿
