PCD is rare. Being overlooked shouldn’t be. 💙

We need you to listen. We need you to learn. And we need you to help us make PCD harder to miss.

🚨 What if the “chronic cough” someone has had their entire life was actually a rare genetic disease?

What if the constant infections weren't “just allergies”?

What if the breathing problems weren't “just asthma”?

And what if the biggest reason it took so long to find answers was simply this:
Nobody knew to look for PCD.

💙 Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) is rare. But being overlooked shouldn’t be.

For many people living with PCD, the journey to diagnosis can mean years of coughing, infections, appointments, treatments, and unanswered questions.

Behind every delayed diagnosis is a person who deserves to be heard, believed, and understood.

That's why PCD awareness matters.

Because somewhere right now, a child may be sick over and over again.

A parent may be searching desperately for answers.

An adult may have spent years wondering why their body never seems to cooperate.

And somewhere, someone may be hearing the words Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia for the very first time.

What if those words are the beginning of their answer?

You don't have to live with PCD to help make a difference.

Learn about PCD by reading our awareness posters.

🐢💙 Ever heard of a “Turtle Day”?

For someone living with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), some days the body simply says, “I need to retreat into my shell.”

A Turtle Day can mean overwhelming fatigue, heavy lungs, increased symptoms, and needing to slow down or rest. It may be invisible from the outside—but that doesn't make it any less real.

A person with PCD can be active and energetic one day and completely wiped out the next. That's not laziness. It's life with a chronic lung disease that requires constant work just to keep breathing and clearing mucus.

🐢 Sometimes resting isn't giving up.

💙 Sometimes slowing down is how you keep going.

👉 Read today’s awareness poster to learn what Turtle Days really mean and how family, friends, coworkers, and communities can better understand them.

🔍💙 Why can it take years—or even decades—to diagnose PCD?

🐢 So what makes PCD such a difficult disease to diagnose?

👉 Read today’s full article and discover why this rare disease can hide in plain sight.

🔍💙 Imagine being sick for years—but never knowing why.

A chronic wet cough. Constant congestion. Repeated ear and sinus infections. Pneumonia.

Maybe even breathing problems from birth.

For someone with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), these symptoms can be mistaken for asthma, allergies, chronic sinusitis, or simply “getting sick a lot.”

And even when doctors suspect PCD, there isn't one simple test that can find every case.

🧩 PCD diagnosis can be a complicated puzzle involving symptoms, specialized testing, genetics, and expert interpretation.

🐢 So why can it take years—or even decades—to get an answer?

👉 Read today’s awareness poster to understand why PCD can hide in plain sight and why recognizing the pattern matters.

🌎💙 Could the place you live actually affect how you feel with PCD?

For someone with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia, things like cold air, humidity, mold, pollen, dust, pollution, and wildfire smoke can all matter. 🌬️

But is there really a perfect climate for PCD? 🌊🏜️❄️

The answer is more complicated than simply choosing a warm, dry, or coastal location.

🐢 Your environment matters—but so does access to the right medical care.

👉 Read the awareness poster to discover what makes a climate easier or harder to live with when you have PCD.
