This 2016 BMW M4 came into Bimmer Goats with a Valvetronic system failure — and this is one repair you don’t want to cut corners on. 🔧🐐
On the S55 engine, the Valvetronic servomotor uses a worm-drive gear that directly engages the eccentric shaft. Over time, wear at this contact point can damage the eccentric shaft gear teeth, causing binding, improper Valvetronic operation, fault codes, reduced power, rough running, or even complete Valvetronic failure.
A common mistake is replacing only the Valvetronic motor without properly inspecting the eccentric shaft. If the eccentric shaft gearing is already worn, installing a new motor against damaged gearing can leave you right back where you started.
For this M4, we addressed the repair properly with a new Valvetronic motor and eccentric shaft, making sure the system is repaired as a whole rather than simply replacing the failed component.
At Bimmer Goats, we believe in diagnosing the cause — not just replacing the part that threw the code.
