Good morning from the start of the 90 Miler. A three day race that starts in Old Forge and ends in Saranac Lake. Roughly 30 miles a day! Today they will stop at Blue Mountain Lake.

Last night, the 7th Lake House served its final dinner. ❤️

I couldn’t be there but wanted to know what the night was like, so I asked server extraordinaire Dana Dornburgh to tell me about it.

Honestly, it sounds like it was exactly the kind of ending you’d hope for.

They were busy.

Daughter Courtney came in to save the day as she always has, when I called in sick at the last minute.

People were ordering extra desserts and asking to take soup home. Dana thinks a few menus may have even disappeared as souvenirs. 😂

As the night went on, friends began filling the bar.

When he came out, everyone cheered.

There were champagne toasts and speeches. Wife Chris and daughter Lauren spoke. He got choked up.

Apparently, when it was finally time to leave…nobody really wanted to.

After 37 years, I think that says more than anything else could.

He told everyone that he’s been lucky to have the best staff and patrons.

But I think an entire room full of people who didn't want the night to end would probably say they were pretty damn lucky to have him, too.

Thank you Jim, the Holt Family and 7th Lake House, for 37 years of Adirondack memories.

Tonight wasn't just the closing of a restaurant.
It was the end of an era. ❤️

And thank you, Dana, for letting those of us who couldn't be there know what the final night felt like.
