🤎 SOMETHING WE’VE BEEN BUILDING WITH PURPOSE

Simple Roots Market has never been about filling shelves just to fill shelves.

Over the past several months, Lana and I have researched, tested, tasted, baked, cleaned, compared ingredients, asked questions, changed our minds—and discovered some pretty wonderful things along the way.

Some will be familiar.

Some may be completely new to you.

And some we’re still keeping a surprise. 🤎

But there’s something deeper behind all of it.

We both feel that Simple Roots is something God has entrusted us to steward.

He has led us to people, products, farmers, makers and simpler ways of doing things that have changed the way we think about what we bring into our own homes and feed our families.

And we don’t feel like those discoveries were meant for us to keep to ourselves.

We feel like we’re simply stewarding what He has shown us—and now we get the privilege of sharing it with you. 🌿

That’s what makes opening these doors so special to us.

There’s still plenty we haven’t shown you yet… and we think that’s part of the fun. 😉

🌾 It starts with the wheat berry.

When we talk about fresh-milled flour at Simple Roots Market, the story actually begins long before we turn on the grain mill.

It begins in the soil. 🤎

We’ve been intentional about choosing wheat berries grown using regenerative farming practices — farming methods focused on caring for the soil, supporting healthy ecosystems and building healthier farmland for generations to come.

Instead of purchasing bags of already-milled flour for many of our baked goods, we start with the whole wheat berry.

🌾 Wheat berries arrive at Simple Roots Market whole.
🌾 We mill them into flour.
🌾 Then that fresh flour becomes the breads, cinnamon rolls, cookies and other goodies you’ll find in our bakery.

And you’ll be able to take some of those same wheat berries home from our bulk pantry and mill or cook with them yourself!

We love knowing more about where our grain comes from, how it was grown, and the people behind it.

Because for us, better food doesn’t just start in the kitchen.

It starts with the soil. 🌱🌾

🌿 From our kitchen to the market…

We’ve said from the beginning that we want to carry products that we actually use and enjoy in our own homes — and this dinner is a pretty good example. 🤎

We made this chicken and jasmine rice using several products that you’ll be able to find at Simple Roots Market.

🫒 Ariston Specialties Extra Virgin Olive Oil
🧄 Ariston Garlic Infused Olive Oil
🍇 Ariston Raspberry Wine Vinegar
🌿 Herbs & seasonings from our bulk spice selection
🍚 Jasmine Rice from our bulk pantry

The chicken was seasoned and cooked with the olive oils and Raspberry Wine Vinegar, and we served it over jasmine rice made with French onion soup and beef consommé.

It was SO good.

One of our favorite parts of getting the market ready has been cooking with the products, trying different combinations, and finding new ways to use them.

As we build Simple Roots Market, one of the things that has meant the most to us is getting to know the people behind many of the products we’ll carry.

New to shopping bulk? We’re making it simple!

At Simple Roots Market, you can bring your own container and purchase as much or as little as you need.

🫙 First things first — your container needs to be CLEAN & DRY.

Before bringing a container from home, please make sure it is:

✨ Empty
✨ Thoroughly washed
✨ Completely dry
✨ Free from food, soap, oil, or other product residue

This helps us keep our refill area and products clean and prevents moisture or residue from getting into our bulk products.

Then you’re ready to refill!

🏷️ Grab a label and place it on your container.

⚖️ Weigh your empty container and write the tare weight on the label.

✏️ Write the product name — Brown Rice, Dish Soap, Oats, Laundry Detergent, etc.

🌿 Fill it with as much or as little as you need.

🛒 Bring it to checkout. We’ll weigh your filled container, subtract the tare weight, and you’ll only pay for the product inside.

Then save your container, clean it when needed, and bring it back for another refill!

No special jar required. Mason jars, bottles and other appropriate reusable containers are welcome as long as they are clean, dry and suitable for the product you’re purchasing.

Buy what you need. Reuse what you already have. Simple. 💚

🌿 What Does “Toxin-Free” Really Mean?

You’ve probably seen “toxin-free,” “natural,” and “clean” on everything from shampoo to dish soap. But those words alone don’t tell the whole story.

At Simple Roots Market, we believe it’s more important to look beyond the front of the label.

We look for:
🌱 Ingredient transparency — knowing what’s actually in a product
🌱 Thoughtful formulations — because “natural” doesn’t automatically mean safer
🌱 Responsible ingredients — including preservatives when they’re needed for product safety
🌱 Brands we trust — companies willing to answer questions and stand behind what they make

Our goal isn’t to create fear around ingredients. It’s to ask questions, learn, and make informed choices about the products we bring into our homes and put on our bodies.

Because at Simple Roots Market, we don’t just want a product to sound clean — we want to understand what’s actually in it. 🌿
