Just wrapped up a ton of work on this 1963 Gibson LG1. Fixed the center seam separation (the magnetic cauls and cleat setup from TJ Thompson yields excellent results) and cleated a crack at the fingerboard extension, fixed the bridge plate and made an ebony bridge to replace the ridiculous plastic bridges Gibson was using at the time, reset the neck, re-fretted with Jescar fretwire, bone nut and saddle, setup and a good polishing. Happy with how everything turned out.

I’ve worked on a ton of guitars this month, and these two old Gibsons are some of my favorites. ES125 from 1956, and an ES125TD from 1959. Two different customers. One inherited his guitar from his father, and the other inherited his from his grandfather. And many years later they both found their way into my little shop for a some TLC. Pretty cool!

Number 91. Grand Concert Classical. Western red cedar over Madagascar rosewood, with ebony binding, bridge and fingerboard. Ambrosia maple and padauk mosaic style rosette and end graft. She’s a beaut!

Read some of the words my client and new friend sent me the next day after picking up his new guitar.

‘It’s not even the same guitar as yesterday. Already, the harmonic overtones are shimmering. The clarity and precision of the guitar, I’ve never played on a guitar like this. It’s coming alive. The sound is gorgeous. It’s addictive.’
