Tomorrow awaits! Spatial Awareness is set to wrap up the season, and Cubby has gathered some incredible tunes over the past few months. We’ve been keeping a close ear on his music, which beautifully blends what’s on the horizon with beloved classics. 🫨➰

Caleb Reyes, known as Cubby, is a multimedia artist celebrated for his world-building prowess. His sound and style are distinctive and nostalgic, capturing the essence of the obscure and turning it into something familiar. Whether he’s DJing, creating art, or producing, his main goal is to spark an emotional and physical response from his audience—as a musician first and a DJ second, he brings that perspective to his artistry. Constantly immersed in music, he draws inspiration from a wide array of genres, including Detroit techno, tribal, deep house, ambient, club, jungle, and dub, among others. His curiosity about sound—how it’s crafted artistically and acoustically—drives him forward. Alongside conceptualizing and co-hosting Spatial Awareness, a weekly gathering at Percy focused on intentional listening and community building, Cubby can be heard at some of Philadelphia’s most established clubs and local radio/streaming programs on a monthly basis.

Join us this Saturday 9/5, as Spatial Awareness presents Liquid Asset for our next live act! ✳️✳️✳️

Liquid Asset is the electronic music project of Alene Marie, a Philadelphia-based producer with releases on labels like New York Trax and Summer Isle. She has performed at clubs and festivals including Bossa Nova Civic, MOMA PS1, and Sustain-Release. With over a decade in the underground music community, Alene creates synthesizer-based recordings and performances using both analog and digital equipment, often handbuilt. She works as an electrician in Philadelphia; her current work explores the class war and the push and pull of singularity with machines juxtaposed against daydreams of the fall of industrial society, in other words techno.

We’re just days away from our final summer gathering at the shop, and we’re ready to welcome Spatial Awareness, a staple in Philly’s scene since 2025. 🌱 The event will kick off with Cyrus, Sound Lounge @ Percy sound curator and 1/2 of Spatial Awareness.

They are a seasoned DJ, musician, artist, and avid record collector with 10+ years of experience behind the decks. Born and raised in Portland, OR, Cyrus carries with them the organic and hypnotic melancholy that life in the Pacific Northwest fosters. In Philly, they are currently working as the Programming Director at the Percy Sound Lounge where they focus on spotlighting artists who they believe are pushing the conversation around community and music forward including residents ADAB, Skeme Richards, Mario Cotto, and Nine of Wands. Their expression in all things is informed by spirituality, interactions with the natural world, the vitality of q***r community, imagining abolitionist futures, and the conviction that deep listening is the act through which human connection is most readily formed.

We’re excited to wrap up our summer local series with where it all began. Spatial Awareness is a weekly in-town gathering hosted by our favorite duo Cubby and Cyrus. Exactly one year ago, we held a Them Local pop-up and DJ set at the Sound Lounge @ Percy , which eventually led to our b&m location upstairs at FORÎN - 2041 Coral St. On September 5th, we are thrilled to have them curating the afternoon at the shop. The event will feature a live act by Liquid Asset ( liquid asset ), with sets before, after, and in between by Spatial residents Cubby and Cyrus 🙂‍↕️

Spatial Awareness: “Their Thursday nights brings together listeners, DJs, producers, musicians, and artists to explore unconventional soundscapes in the comfortable, high-fidelity setting of the Sound Lounge. Every artist booked to play is chosen with complete trust to bring forward sounds that’s both unique and personal to them. Artists are given no assigned format or genre requirements, with limited suggestions, and are encouraged to play whatever they want. Spatial Awareness invites listeners to come with an open mind and tap into something beyond the ordinary.”

“LA TIERRA” through the lens of Nate Haile 🌱

Captured just moments before a late afternoon storm in Naguabo, Puerto Rico, in January 2025, this piece beautifully illustrates the land coming alive. It evokes an indescribable sense of protection that flows from the coastline deep into the mountains. Standing in awe between Yemaya’s ocean and Ochún’s rivers, one can truly appreciate the spirit of the land.

This photograph is part of a larger collection of analog images and short films by Nate Haile and Emily Reyes, titled “May We Always Remember / May We Never Forget (Que Siempre Recordemos / Que Nunca Olvidemos).”

The HOME ECONOMICS EXPERIMENT is a project based in Japan that began in 2020. It was inspired by the importance of personal living spaces during the pandemic. This initiative explores new possibilities for living environments by blending home economics with innovative production techniques, all while emphasizing sustainability. It offers unique items that add value by repurposing discarded materials and used furniture, as well as by crafting distinctive everyday products from original fabrics.
