SO the Philadelphia Cycling Classic was underway, as the pro women blasted around Logan Circle and up Kelly Drive to climb The Wall. Like many fans, I scampered hither and yon on my Brompton Bicycle, hoping to get a handle on this race that stretches so far. Then saw an example of Pro Spectating. This couple had the 6abc live feed on an iPad, provisions, and comfy chairs, an arm’s length from the action. ••• May try this at next year’s classic.

Be alert for John Eustice's astute race commentary this weekend AND throughout the year. TIME MANAGEMENT FOR SUNDAY: SET YOUR ALARM and be on the Parkway near Logan Circle by 8:15 AM for the Official Return of the Philadelphia Cycling Classic --as the PRO WOMEN blast off at 8:30 a.m. Hit the vendor booths again, then figure out a way to bike or train up to MANAYUNK TO CATCH SOME LAPS UP THE WALL... get back to LOGAN CIRCLE before NOON TO CATCH the PRO MEN'S START (and possibly the women's finish!)... drift up to LEMON HILL and stay there to see the party AND start to watch the race shake out. •• then decide if you want to head up to THE MANAYUNK WALL AGAIN... or go down to the PARKWAY TO SEE THE MOST ICONIC CITY FINISH SPRINT in the U.S.

After a 10 year hiatus the Philly bike race returns this weekend! Do you know about its connection to the Bucks County Classic?

The Philadelphia race was co-founded in 1985 by Jerry Casale of Hill Cycle in Chestnut Hill. Hill Cycle was more than a bike shop, it was a place where all who loved cycling came together, from Olympians to neighborhood kids, and through their love of the sport helped build American racing.

John Eustice, Bucks County Classic race founder, was one of those who learned the business of racing from the Hill Cycle community. He would go on to race in Europe, become the first US National Champion, create the first American Team to compete in a Grand Tour, bring racing to the masses as a commentator for ESPN and ABC Sports and of course found iconic races like the Bucks County Classic.

Thank you to the Hill Cycle community for inspiring and teaching so many of us to carry the torch of American cycling forward. Wishing the new torch carriers of the Philadelphia Cycling Classic a great weekend!

Get thee to the PHL CLASSIC AMATEUR TIME TRIAL on Sat., 8/29 at the MLK Drive start and find out. Mark Y. (In jacket+tie) will let it rip on the only Brompton Bicycle in the TT! (Brommie Start Time=approx. 9:15 AM) ••• AND check in at the BROMPTON BOOTH, next to the Philadelphia Museum of Art in the RaceFest zone on SAT + SUN. ••• Bring a friend or ten!

TROPHY BIKES ain’t exactly a racing shop… BUT we’ve been caught up with the Philadelphia Cycling Classic since Race #1 (Winner: Eric Heiden) back in 1985. We did a motorcycle lap (backwards) and snapped Roberto Gaggioli flat out on his way to victory in 1988. (Yeah, we took a pic of The Doper) We even sponsored the *only* USA Cycling Folder Class ever (yup, folders conquered The Wall) in the Manayunk Hill Climb. ••• SO dang, LOOK FOR US ON LEMON HILL COME SUNDAY, AUG. 30!
