We’ve been absolutely loving all the filet crochet we’ve been seeing recently, and if you have too, Elspeth’s class is the perfect place to learn!

Join Elspeth Vance for her Filet Crochet Workshop on Friday, November 6th at Sacred Sheep at The Redd on Salmon in Portland, OR.

In this advanced-beginning crochet class we will level up your crochet skills! “Filet” meaning *net* in french, is a lace making technique wherein a gridded net is constructed and, selectively, open cells are filled in to create simple, monochromatic designs. In this workshop you will learn the basics of filet crochet and construction techniques. Students will learn to read and work from a chart to create a filet swatch and will be provided instruction to make their swatches into a small mesh bag!

Every year of Sacred Sheep so far, we’ve had a few very talented local tattoo artists join us at The Redd for Fiber Flash tattoos! Tom Alvarado and crew are back again this year and we couldn’t be more excited. They’re available every day of the weekend, Friday through Sunday, and take place in a semi-private space apart from the marketplace. Since these are so popular, plan to sign up early! The table to set up your appointment will be outside in the Community Tent.

Tom’s flash this year is so good! He’s created such a great sheet for us, even painting a physical piece to include in the silent auctions we are doing to raise money for NAYA Family Center .

If you’re local to Portland you can book directly with Tom for a time outside of the festival. Appointments are open a week before and a week after Sacred Sheep! You can find the link to book in our bio.

In a time when much feels unsteady, knitting can become a compass. In True North: Knitting Toward What Matters, Minnesota designer Brienne Moody explores how place, structure, and story shape the sweaters we make and the creative communities we build around them. Drawing from her design practice along Lake Superior, her work as a running and strength coach, and her experience teaching knitters to design from gauge rather than guesswork, this lecture offers a clear framework for knitting with intention. Through personal examples and practical tools, participants will leave with renewed creative direction, a stronger sense of alignment, and the confidence to approach their projects with clarity and autonomy.

We wanted to take a moment to talk about our Ravelry chatter thread! This is a space to chat about all things Sacred Sheep. Are you carpooling? Organizing a meetup? Swapping tickets? The Ravelry thread is a place to coordinate with your yarnie buddies :) As the event draws closer, we’ve gotten more questions about selling/giving away tickets to those who can’t make it, and this is the place to do so! If you’re on the hunt for a ticket (especially for VIP night!), make sure to check it out!

We’ve worked with the Jupiter NEXT for a few years now and have heard such great things from guests that stay there during Sacred Sheep weekend! Knitters and crochers congregate in the lobby, take the short trip down the the REDD for the festival, and join back at the hotel at the end of the night. To celebrate this tradition, we’ve organized a special event on Saturday, November 7th! Join together in the Hey Love Superette at the Jupiter NEXT for an evening of crafting and meeting new friends. Drinks and food will be available for purchase from the award-winning bar and restaurant!

knit knat chit chat is back at Sacred Sheep! On Friday, November 6th at 2:30, join Jessie Mae and Park Williams to see their podcast IRL. Jessie Mae (Jessie Maed Designs) and Park (Park & Knit), two knitwear designers and best friends, launched a webshow last year called Knit Knat Chit Chat and for the second year in a row are bringing a LIVE version to Sacred Sheep! Knit knat while they chit chat about all the little things that keep them going and excited: knitting, yarn, notions/accessories, books, video games, friendship, creative pursuits, etc.

Come meet your fav designers and knitting friends! Our meetup schedule is finalized and ready for your perusal. Remember, although you need a ticket to enter and join in on all of the Sacred Sheep activities, the timed entry of your ticket corresponds to when you can enter the marketplace. You are welcome to come early for any meet ups and to enjoy the entire outdoor courtyard on the same day of your ticket is set for!

For those that haven’t been to Sacred Sheep, local guilds come to join us at The Redd and host fun activities during the weekend. On Saturday, the Aurora Colony Handspinner’s Guild is hosting a spin-in with a fiber prep demonstration. On Sunday, the Tigard Knitting Guild is hosting a Speed Knitting Competition, and Fort Vancouver Knitters Guild will have another fun game to follow!

We’re less than a month away from Sacred Sheep! If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, here’s your sign - they’re going fast!

If you’ve been to Sacred Sheep before, you probably remember our timed entry tickets. We started offering this and it’s been a great way to minimize long waits and make sure the marketplace avoids getting overcrowded. We’ve found this style of entry works super well for us!

Here’s what you need to know:

- Your ticket is your entrance time for the marketplace on that day. If you have a later ticket entry time then you are welcome to come early and hang out in the Outdoor Courtyard where the Community Tent, food trucks, meet ups and more is happening prior to your ticket time on the same day.
- The timed entry portion of your ticket is only relevant to entering the marketplace and there isn’t an “end” time, you are welcome to leave and come back or stay as long as you like!
- There will still be a line! Timed entry tickets helps the line move much swifter and allows us to manage the line better.

James’s jewelry uses gems and stones to create colorful, ethereal pieces to last a lifetime. There will be a limited collection at the JNW table available all weekend!
