What a whirlwind of a week! 🇹🇼❤️
We were honored to be invited to share our chocolates at TECO San Francisco’s celebration of Taiwan’s National Day. The guest of honor was to be former President Tsai Ing-Wen, a personal hero of mine. Three years ago, when I was commissioned to make 3300 boxes for APEC in SF, I was sad to learn that she was not allowed to attend, as I hoped she would get the chance to see how my small chocolate company, born from my love for Taiwan, was on such an important world stage. —>
But last night, my friend Stacy Tang 🐱🧑🍳 tagged me in a video that had made the news. President Tsai had made it to town safely, and she had just presented Speaker Emerita, Nancy Pelosi, with a box of Formosa Chocolates! I was too busy making a custom box for President Tsai to pause and enjoy the moment. —>
For the occasion, I had created a special collection of Taiwan-inspired bonbons just for her, including a cilantro bonbon in honor of her well-known love of cilantro. (As it turns out, capturing the fresh flavor of cilantro in chocolate is haaaard!)
It was such a surreal experience, from seeing my chocolates on the news, to meeting someone I’ve admired for so long. I’m still processing it all.
And now I’m absolutely DYING to know what President Tsai thought of the cilantro bonbon!
One more surprise: I’ll be making a very small batch of our special Presidential Collection available to the public, with 100% of proceeds donated to the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA).
