One of my favorite things about traditional Tongan kahoa is the beautiful layers and intricate details. 🌺
While I was in Hawaiʻi for my uncle’s funeral, I was so inspired by the craftsmanship of the kahoa I saw. Each layer represents so much time, creativity, and care.
Living in Utah, I don’t always have access to the traditional materials used to make these pieces, but I love finding creative ways to recreate elements of traditional Tongan kahoa using materials I can find locally.
For these kahoa I made for my nieces and nephews, I incorporated some of that inspiration using craft foam, ti leaves, and fresh flowers.
It’s a reminder of why I started sharing tutorials in the first place: to show that you can create something beautiful with the materials available to you.
Make with what you have. ❤️
