Another EPIC day digging crystals at nearly 10,000ft with our buddy Ben and Heath in Red Feather Colorado and filming a NEW Docuseries for our YouTube Channel Chasing History!!!

- Hahaha..... we dont make episodes anymore we make full length Docuseries because a Documentary is not enough time!! This is going to be a 4 hour series. But WE DONT CARE!!!! The history, geology and the story of what we are finding is SO COOL!!! We cant WAIT to share it with you guys, and ..... if it takes 4 hours to tell the story.... then it take 4 hours lol πŸ˜† πŸ˜„ 🀣 πŸ˜‚ Go watch the stupid Travel Channel if you sorta wanna learn something. Stick with us if you want to NERD OUT!

- In our last few post we went over the geological history..... the Discovery is just as interesting. Back in 2020, a 500 year fire RAGED through this part of Colorado it was a fire so hot that it literally burnt the soil away leaving nothing behind but the rocks which is advantageous because now you can see the geology and you are able to find things that other people just weren't able to find. Out prospecting day and heath found this site and it's an INCREDIBLE new discovery for this area!!

- We got a LOT of digging down today!!! And dug some of the biggest crystals we have ever seen come out of the ground. We're still in awe. We got to clean some up so you can see the color. The iron rich clay makes it really difficult for you to see the beauty of the Crystal but this will give you an idea of what it will look like once it goes through a lengthy cleaning process that goes beyond the simple washing and scrubbing that we did this afternoon!!!

So much more to come!!!! Not Done YET!!!

EPIC weekend digging hematite quartz at Red Feather Lakes Colorado and nearly 10,000ft with our buddy Ben and Heath and filming a NEW Documentary Series for our YouTube Channel "Chasing History"

- Holy CRAP ..... Guys......we've never seen anything like this. These guys have one of the most incredible crystal sites we've ever come across. And what's so EPIC is that no one knew it existed 2 years ago. There are STILL incredible things to discover and this is a GREAT example!!

- The geology of this area is incredible and so is the story of why the crystals are here. We think this is going to be one of our best episodes!!

- In short.... a magma plume tried to punch through the granite cap of this part of the Front Range and being unable to do so sent shoots of magma like the roots of a tree in every direction interacting with water and growing crystals in a 20 square mile area...... ( we cover the full story in the YouTube channel but that's the gist of it)

- So for a 20 square mile area.... you have all types of crystals that formed nearly 30 million years ago. All are different due to the unique mineral rich deposits of this region, but what makes this site interesting is that you can have a different type of crystal literally 10 ft away, It's SO EPIC!!

- We have got a LOT of filming and digging to do still. Keep in mind crystals are dirty. We're going to clean them and later we'll show you what they look like!!!

Much More to Come!!!

Day one digging crystals in Red Feather Lakes Colorado, filming a new documentary series for our YouTube Channel Chasing History!!

- We have needed to cover some geological history on our Channel so our buddy Ben Holzworth invited us up to dig crystals and to be our guide through the millions of years of geological epicness that is Northern Colorado!!!

- At nearly 10,000ft elevation, Red Feather Lakes is a unique geological region and sits within the ancient core of the front range of the Rocky Mountains and is dominated by Sherman Granite. over 35 Million years ago a ploom of magma from the earths core tried to punch through, unable to break through the granite magma spread out like tree roots trying to reach the surface. When these roots of magma interacted with water the conditions were perfect for unique crystal growth.
....And there was a LOT of unique crystal growth!

- Today we met and interviewed James Werner (JW to his friends) a local Historian, old timer and Local Miner at the Crystal City Mine to discuss the history of mining throughout the region. JW let us get our feet wet in crystal digging after the Interview and WE ARE FREKIN HOOKED!!!! πŸ˜„ 🀣 πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜†

- Our buddy Ben took us all over the area giving us a tour of the local geology and breaking down the science behind why there are so many crystals here!!!

- We also got to check out the ghost town of Manhattan Colorado and some old mining shafts from the gold mining days!
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY!!!! Another crystal site and a LOT of Filming!!! Red Feather Colorado is Frekin EPIC GUYS!!!! THIS IS Going to be SUCH a GREAT Documentary!!!!!!!

EPIC final day digging the Green River Formation!!!

- Spent an AWESOME week hanging out with our buddy Tony digging 53 Million year old fossils and filming some GREAT Educational Shorts for our YouTube Channel "Chasing History"

- This formation is made up of an Ancient Extinct lake system called Fossil Lake. 53 million years ago a GIANT inland lake existed in what is now part of Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah, but what makes this like unique is that the bottom layer of the lake was an oxygen free zone which means that when anything died in that Lake and it floated to the bottom predators could not scavenge it nor could bacteria break it down, allowing sediment to slowly cover up whatever fell to the bottom creating one of the most incredible fossil beds anywhere in the world.

- The story of the ecosystem of this ancient Fossil Lake is incredibly complete but there are still new discoveries being made almost every year due to the commercial paleontology that is being done! This formation is such a great example of why commercial paleontology is a benefit to science. But what really makes this a unique sight is because the fossils are so abundant that it allows the average person to collect a really cool fossil very affordably. You shouldn't have to have a million dollars to have an epic fossil in your collection. $10 will get you a decent fish, $20 a really nice one. And it's their collecting these fossils that inspires the next generation.

- We've got a ton of great stuff for our fossil fish frames and a lot of great footage but the best part was getting to hang out with our buddy Tony!! it sucks but all of our favorite people have to live on the other side of the damn country... lol πŸ˜† 🀣

- Packed and loaded for our next and final adventure for the summer.

We're off to Northern Colorado to dig for hematite quartz crystals and to film a new documentary on the geology of Red Feather Colorado and the crystals there.

Oooooooooo... This is going to be AWESOME!!!!

EPIC weekend up in Wyoming, hanging out, digging fossil for the shop and filming some shorts for Chasing History!!!

- It's been a BUSY weekend.... but we got to do a little night fishing..... lol.... (my kind of fishing). Due to the nature of the rock the fossils are locked in, one technique of getting the fossils out is doing it in large layers, where during the day you split a large sheet exposing one level and wait until dark where you can use lanterns to find the fossils. Sounds CRAZY... but it very effective. By controlling the direction of the light source you can see subtleties in the rock that allow you to spot more fossils than you would during the day.
It's REALLY genius.... and fun to beat the heat by digging at night!!!

- We have also split and picked up over 1,000 mini fish from a mass extinction layer for our Chasing History Fossil Frame sets!!! as well as filmed a LOT of Great Educational Shorts our YouTube Channel "Chasing History" Look for those Coming Soon!!!!

Wrapping up the Wyoming part of the summer adventure, just a day or so then back on the road!!!... where will the road take us Next??

History Rocks!!!!!!.
