For anybody looking to get started in steelhead fishing this year, join us at our upcoming FREE classes. Steelhead 101 on October 10th will focus on fly fishing, while the November 14th class will focus on float fishing. We ask that you call us at (440) 934-5345 to sign up for these free classes. For all the tyers, we will be hosing our open vise nights once a month from November to March. These events are always free and a great opportunity to hang out with other tyers.

Want to get started in fly fishing in Northeast Ohio? Here is exactly what you need to get started ⬇️
A 9’ 6wt fly rod is an extremely versatile fly rod that you can have a good time fishing for the smaller species, but still be able to target steelhead. There’s a couple other rod weights that might make more sense for you, but the 6wt is a great starting point.

The fly line is one of the most important parts of the system, a good fly line like the Rio gold XP or scientific anglers infinity, is a great do all fly line.

2-3x leaders and tippet are great for the summertime bass and bluegill fishing that Ohio has to offer. These fish are also a great starting point because you can get some practice catching fish that aren’t quite and finicky.

Nippers and hemostats are essential tools for just starting out.

A fly assortment with some small streamers and poppers are great flies to start out with for our summertime species.

While not essential to start, a pack is very handy to hold all of your fly fishing gear.

Join us for a beginners fly casting class. Whether you have never picked up a fly rod before or just need a little help getting your casting down, this class is for you. The class is 1 hour long and there are time slots at 11:00AM and 1:00PM. Space is very limited in each class. Cost is $35 with $25 coming back in store credit for use during the event.
