Where does inspiration come from? For me, it’s everywhere!

I’m always awed by the beauty of nature. I love noticing the colors, shapes, flowers, birds, and small details when I’m outdoors. I never turn down a chance to wander antique shops! It’s fun seeing old needlework, vintage decorations, packaging, furniture and everyday objects from the past. The things I collect and surround myself with find their way into my creative world in many ways.

Inspiration can sometimes become a sketch or maybe an idea just percolates in the back of my mind for a while before making its way into a design. Once in a while, something small sparks an idea immediately.

A Turkey’s Thanks is a perfect example. The idea began with an appliquéd turkey I admired in an antique shop. That little spark eventually became my own colorful, folk-art turkey. It’s one of my favorite autumn designs.

I never know how the things I see and experience might inspire my imagination!

Where do you find creative inspiration? Perhaps it’s seeing an interesting cross stitch finish, new stitching supplies or watching Flosstube?

A closer look at ’Tis the Night

Remember the magical feeling of trick-or-treating on Halloween night? You’ve donned your costume, the sky is dark, jack-o-lanterns are glowing, treats await you at neighbors’ doors, and the wind is blowing softly.

I wrote this poem to celebrate Halloween, inspired by the anticipation and excitement of going trick-or-treating on Halloween night.

One thing I love about designing cross stitch is creating little seasonal vignettes around my home where the stitching is part of the decorating. This Halloween buffet is filled with vintage finds, glowing pumpkins, handmade items, and some of my favorite stitched pieces. Which detail catches your eye first?

A closer look at Moonlight Mischief

All the ingredients are here for a perfect Halloween night: a happy witch, her kitty, a jack-o-lantern, and a rickety broom all together beneath a glowing moon.

These are a few of my favorite things. I hope they’re your favorite things, too. 🧡🖤

I may have a bit of an embroidery scissors obsession! Here are four of my favorites:

1. The silver Dovos are my overall favorite. They snip cleanly, are comfortable to hold, and feel perfectly balanced in my hand. They've spent countless hours trimming threads on my stitched models!

2. The red-handled Cohana scissors because every girl needs a beautiful pair of red scissors! They're lovely to use for trimming threads too.

3. The mint green Karen Kay Buckley scissors because 1) I love mint green—it's such a perfect vintage color—and 2) Karen Kay Buckley scissors are amazing. I own them in several sizes. They're especially nice for finishing projects like ornaments and for clipping curves, felt, and felted wool when you need to get into a tight space.

4. The classic stork scissors. They're so beautiful! This vintage pair was made in Solingen, Germany, and I found them on Etsy. I actually haven't used them yet—I just enjoy admiring them.

Do you have a scissors obsession too? What's your favorite pair?

New from Luminous Fiber Arts: ’Tis the Night

Some Halloween memories never really leave us!

The excitement of heading out after dark with an empty candy bucket. Moonlight filtering through the trees. The rustle of autumn leaves. Wondering what might be waiting around the next corner.

'Tis the Night began as a poem about those magical moments, and slowly grew into an illustrated Halloween sampler filled with all the tiny details that make Halloween feel so enchanting.

This design makes a striking piece of Halloween décor for your home. Hang it in an entryway, living room, or stitching space throughout the season, or display it alongside pumpkins and vintage collectibles on a table. Whether you're drawn to whimsical Halloween, primitive-inspired style, or simply love stitching samplers with personality, this design is a celebration of Halloween magic!

New from Luminous Fiber Arts: Moonlight Mischief

Halloween night has finally arrived...

One little witch has been waiting all year to take her annual moonlight joyride. With her friends, a cat and jack-o'-lantern, and a somewhat questionable broom, she's off to pay a visit to the smiling harvest moon.

This was finished as a small pillow with baker’s twine bow, perfect for tucking into a dough bowl, tiered tray, or standing on a shelf. It would also be charming displayed in a small vintage frame to add a touch of Halloween magic to your home each autumn.

Hi, Friends! If you're new here, welcome!

I'm Misty, the designer behind Luminous Fiber Arts.

I create vintage-inspired cross stitch patterns celebrating the seasons, antique treasures, nature, and little details that make a house feel like a cozy home.

When I'm not designing, I’m often wandering antique shops, filling my sketchbooks with watercolor, or collecting ideas that eventually find their way into my patterns.

Whether you've been here for years or just found me through my recent antique shopping reel, I'm so glad you're here! I hope you’ll be inspired to slow down, create something with your hands, and notice the beauty in everyday moments.

I'd love to get to know you, too! How did you find my page, and what kinds of posts do you enjoy seeing the most?
