In honor of Dolly Parton , we are going to be reading The Little Engine that Could for tomorrowā€™s Little Lit. Dolly sends this book as her first book to every new child registered for the Imagination Library . She states her illiterate father instilled the importance of reading early on, and that he had an ā€˜I think I canā€™ attitude. Because of this, Dolly has always felt like The Little Engine that Could, so Iā€™d like to keep her memory alive by reading and chugging along with her.

In honor and in memory of the Queen who is Dolly Parton, I will be donating 25% of the proceeds of all childrenā€™s books sold this Sat-Tues to DeKalb Countyā€™s chapter of Imagination Library . This includes both picture and board books, boxed gift sets, and indestructibles and bath books.

As a Librarian and parent, childhood literacy is as important to me as it is to Doll, whose own father couldnā€™t read or write.
Unlike my daughter, most children donā€™t have a Mama who owns a bookstore, and they may not have a home library with books to call their own.

As a recipient of Dollyā€™s legacy, my daughter receives free monthly books from the Imagination Library, because of community sponsorships the DeKalb Public Library has worked to gather. Communities must fund to match the cost per child so the Imagination Library can enroll children. I will be donating this money specifically towards our DeKalb County community chapter to enable more local children to receive books for up to five years.

Please consider shopping local and small this weekend, or picking up a holiday gift ahead of time, because your purchase can help open to up a world of reading and connection for your smallest neighbors. Thank youšŸ’•. We will always love you and how much you loved literacy, Dolly šŸ¦‹šŸ“š.

Join us to celebrate Bookstore Romance Day on Saturday August 15th!

All Romance and Romantasy books are 20% off. Romance-themed totes, pouches, gifts, hats, and bookmarks are 30% off! Items will be marked on a cart. Books will be in genre sections on the shelves, and all sale items will ring up automatically discounted during checkout.

We are open from 8-3 and are pulling a winner from all purchases (please enter your email when asked for a receipt so I can reach out to you) to get a $25 gift card! Sale will be through the weekend but only shoppers on the 15th will be entered for the gift card.

Someone purchased the Narwhal plush on Aug 9th and didnā€™t realize that Jelly comes in the set because their plastic tie had been broken. If you were the purchaser please message me so we can coordinate pickup of your Jelly! Narwhal and Jelly are a team and Iā€™d hate for you to not have both, especially after covering their ā€œadoptionā€ fee. Thank you, letā€™s hope we can find their owner!

Sun 9th- Audiobook Walk at 9am with girlswalkdekalbco . Meet at The Greenhouse to grab a coffee and go on a 45-min trail walk. Listen to your current audiobook or a suggested book for the day.

Sat 15th- Celebrate Bookstore Romance Dat by stopping Sycamoreā€™s Indie Bookstores Golden Hour & Hidden Chapter Bookshop ! Each store will have a prize drawing, special deals, and unique events. Stay tuned!
