It is a myth that cranberries grow in water. Instead, cranberry beds are specially prepared, flat plots of land surrounded by dikes and ditches. These beds serve as the foundation for cranberry vines and experience minimal soil disturbance due to the cranberry’s nature as a perennial crop. In fact, some Wisconsin cranberry marshes have productive plants that are over 100 years old!
