Middestad Mall was one of the first shopping centres to be built in the Western Cape. It has been extended twice since the mid-80s in order to keep pace with the rapid growth of Bellville, and to cater for both local residents and the commuters who use the nearby public transport facilities. Much has changed in the area over the years, but this busy shopping centre with its 51 tenants has remained
at the forefront for meeting the diverse needs of its shoppers, from trendsetting fashion and the latest technology to groceries and a meal-on-the-go. Today, Middestad Mall is visited by about 650 000 shoppers every month, many of whom make use of the free parking available just across the road. Middestad Mall cares about the community and is an active participant in Growthpoint Properties’Corporate Social Investment project called Growsmart, which – with the support of the Western Cape Education Department – is aimed at improving the unacceptably low literacy levels in primary schools in the Western Cape. Growsmart is an annual literacy competition which was launched in 2010, and which has since won three international awards for community support.
