Rizpah (Ons gee om) is a moving memoir by Anet Jansen that captures nearly two decades of profound dedication to vulnerable youth through the Rizpah Ministry in South Africa. Centered on the vital world of foster care, the narrative provides an intimate and honest look at the daily realities, steep emotional challenges, and immense joys of creating safe spaces for children in crisis. Infused with a deeply spiritual perspective, the book serves as a powerful testament to community action, faith, and the protective, unconditional love required to heal and uplift young lives.

This 1940 edition binds together two of the most influential political treatises of the Renaissance. The Prince offers a pragmatically brutal, cold-eyed examination of statecraft and the acquisition of political power, famously introducing the philosophical concept that the end justifies the means. Conversely, The Discourses explores the mechanics of a stable republic, focusing on civic virtue and liberty. This specific 1940 hardcover features an introduction by American political scientist Max Lerner, capturing how Machiavelli's ideas were re-examined globally right at the outbreak of World War II.

This 1969 reprinted vintage volume acts as an accessible gateway into the vast, complex labyrinth of ancient Jewish law, ethics, and lore. Compiled by translator H***n Polano, it carefully curates key narratives, traditional commentaries, proverbs, and beautiful legends from the Talmud, presenting them in structured English for a mainstream, non-specialist audience. Printed by Frederick Warne & Co. as a continuation of their educational "Chandos Classics" ethos, this hardback reflects the mid-century Western effort to preserve and share foundational theological scholarship during a deeply turbulent era for global Jewish heritage.

Happy Birthday, Udine! ❤️📚

Sometimes we get so caught up in enjoying everything Sunset Books has to offer that we forget where it all began, and who made it possible.

Udine, you are the founder, the owner and the heart and soul behind Sunset Books. Without you, there would be no little bookshop, no wonderful events, no friendships formed between the shelves, no excitement of finding books people have been searching for for years, and no beautiful community that has grown around this special place.

The laughter, the conversations, the memories, the love, the coffee and cake, all of it exists because of the vision and hard work you put into creating something that has become so much more than just a bookshop.

We are incredibly grateful for everything you have built and for all the lives you have touched along the way.

And if you REALLY want to wish Udine a happy birthday, come and buy some books! Because the best way to keep the heartbeat of Sunset Books alive is to keep supporting the it. 📚❤️🥳
