Favites pentagona…. “Aussie war coral” looks a lot war paint from the Middle Ages in Scotland, maybe that’s why it got the name war coral? Super easy to grow, loves low light and sometimes will even have full colour NϺOᗡ ƎᗡISԀՈ as it encrusts down and underneath a ledge.

Probably one of the nicest looking “Favia” type corals around. To be completely honest, the identification of Favids, Goniastrea and a bunch of them in that group is something we should brush up on…. Need more time in the day 😂. Anyway this one is amazing and it seems like such a long time ago that we collected this one ourselves when we used to wild collect for export. Still remember the exact bommie the original piece was found on at Pixie reef (GBR). The blue is stunning and then those electric greens through it are a cherry on top. It got called “omicron” on the stock list because that was the latest covid strain name at the time 😂.

That black line in the Porites densa we just cut in half is a hex tile that it’s over grown, quite fast we will too! Imagine growing your own miniature version of a giant Porites bommie like the one known as “Big Momma” in American Samoa that’s 6m tall and 42 meters in circumference! Single species coral reef aquariums aren’t much heard of for some reason.

By far one of our favourite things to see! This “phoenix effect” can take months or even years to start happening, which is mind blowing because sometimes the “dead” fungia looks like decaying live rock long before you see any new life forming. Corals are INCREDIBLE! 🪸 🪸🪸🪸🪸
