🦋 Schmetterling—German for butterfly—is one of those rare creations where nature and craftsmanship come together in perfect harmony.
🌈At its heart is an extraordinary 18.27 carat solid black opal, mined from the renowned Mulga Rush Opal Fields, Lightning Ridge. Measuring 36 × 30 × 4mm with an N3 body tone, the gem displays an exceptionally rare ribbon pattern, where vivid ribbons of crimson red, molten gold, fiery orange and vibrant green dance effortlessly across the entire face of the gem. As the pendant moves, the colours roll and transform in a mesmerising display that seems almost alive.
❤️ The heart-shaped opal has been thoughtfully set in the orientation that best showcases its remarkable play of colour, allowing the brilliance of the gem to be appreciated in every movement.
⚒️ Handcrafted in 18ct yellow gold by master goldsmith Gerd Schulz of Lightning Ridge, the setting is a work of art in its own right. The elegant bail forms a slender stem upon which the butterfly appears to rest, its softly curling tip adorned with ten sparkling diamonds, like morning dew glistening in the first light.
✨Turn the pendant over and another masterpiece is revealed. The reverse has been painstakingly hand-carved to mirror the opal’s natural ribbon pattern—a hidden detail that reflects the exceptional skill and artistry behind its creation.
