Vicki Bokros is the founder of Down to Earth Opals and is a qualified gemmologist, registered opal valuer and designer of bespoke opal jewellery. 💙 October is Opal Month — so let’s talk about triplets!
My love of opal started with my Mum. ❤️
Growing up in Melbourne, I always admired her beautiful opal triplet ring. Dad bought it for her from a fancy jewellery store, and he bought himself a pair of opal cufflinks.
My parents loved dressing up and wearing their special opal jewellery — and Mum’s ring was always one of my favourites.
And guess what? I have it today. ❤️
It’s still beautiful, still in perfect condition… and yes, it’s a triplet! 😊
Did Mum and Dad know it was a triplet? Probably not. And it didn’t matter. They simply saw something beautiful, loved the colour and enjoyed wearing it.
After 35 years in the opal industry, I’ve come to realise that for many people, their opal journey starts exactly the same way — with a triplet. 💙
A flash of colour. An affordable introduction to opal. Something that sparks a fascination that can last a lifetime.
Some people go on to fall in love with black opal, boulder opal, crystal opal or picture stones.
And some will always love that first beautiful triplet.
And that’s perfectly OK. ❤️
Because there’s no “right” opal to love.
This October, during Opal Month, celebrate the opal that started your story.
Sometimes the journey starts with a triplet. 💙

✨ CARVED IN TANDEM ✨
🌈A truly unique pair of gem picturestone opals, sourced from the same mine and beautifully different yet naturally harmonious.
✨Each double-sided stone has been individually carved by a different member of our team, both new to the art of opal carving. Soft carved bands reveal contrasting potch and flashes of gem colour, creating a beautiful landscape on every surface.
🤝The opals were carved by Kat and Lily, whose work brings out the natural character of the stone while retaining its individuality. The earrings were designed by Vicki Bokros and then carefully handmade by Johanna Sheppard, bringing together the vision, skill and craftsmanship of everyone involved.
