From tree to flower to cacao pod 🌸⁠

This is where chocolate begins.⁠
⁠
Cacao trees produce hundreds (sometimes thousands!) of these tiny, delicate flowers, growing right from the trunk and branches of the tree.⁠
⁠
Only a small number of them will be pollinated by midges and eventually grow into cacao pods — which can take several months to mature.⁠
⁠
It’s pretty amazing to stand under a cacao tree and see flowers, tiny developing pods and full-sized cacao pods all growing on the same tree.⁠

A very long way from a chocolate bar… but this is where it all starts. 🌱🍫⁠
