SkiUphill - RunUphill

SkiUphill - RunUphill Pushing for the life well-lived since 2017. Your collective of experience-driven gear nerds. SkiUphill pushes for the life well lived.

We are a collective of experience driven individuals each with our own history, knowledge and stories of getting out there and getting after it. We love skiing, we love running, we love climbing and any combination of those activities. Our goal is to share what we know, what we have learned, with our customers and friends. Likewise, we open ourselves to the knowledge and stories of others, to shar

e in the passion of moving quickly through the mountains. At the end of the day, we look to create community for ourselves and others like us. But also, to push open the door for those who are new to the mountains and exploring them, to bring new members into our mountain family.

What’s more fun than hammering up a steep, 750m climb, as fast as you can? Doing so on a Friday evening with a bunch of friends. King and Queen of the Hill’s Week 1 group effort at Carter Buttress was a reminder that when you do it with friends, it doesn’t feel like suffering. Thanks for helping to make it all happen.

It’s an exciting time of the year - RunUphill Saturday Long Runs are right around the corner in Canmore!

To kick off the season, Arc’teryx and RunUphill are opening the doors wide, regulars, newcomers, people who’ve been on the fence about long runs for six months, all of you. Come meet the run leaders who’ll be holding it down all season, and hang out with some good humans who like dirt.

The theme of the evening is Spring Formal, if it were hosted by a running shop. We’ll start off with a short, group jog through the river trails to test out some cool Arc’teryx shoes and then shake it down back at the shop after.

Wardrobe: show us your take on spring formal meets running. There are no wrong answers here, go off!

Arrive early if you want to demo some fresh Arc’teryx shoes. First-come, first-served!

5:30PM - Meet at the SkiUphill to get yourself a pair of Arc’teryx demo shoes.

6:00PM - Strut the river trails. We’ll go puddle stomping in our best outfits for about 5-7km at social pace (6:30-6:45/km).

6:45PM - Bevies and snacks back at the shop, meet and greet this year’s run leaders and hang out with friends.

9PM~ish - Go home. We have Long Run tomorrow!

A week ago at the shop in Squamish, mid–snowpack talk, Eric from Zenith Mountain Guides put me on the spot:

“What’s going on at SkiUphill right now? What’s cool?”

And the answer wasn’t a new ski, or a binding, or whatever just landed in boxes.

It was this: Spring skiing is coming. Fast.

It always sneaks up the same way. One day it’s mid-winter laps and storm chasing. Then suddenly someone says “glacier tomorrow?” and now you’re digging through bins at 10PM trying to remember where your harness is… or realizing you never actually bought ski crampons for those shiny new bindings.

That shift from winter skiing to technical, objective-based days happens fast. And it’s usually not the fitness or motivation that shuts people down. It’s the missing piece of kit.

Ski crampons. A proper pack. A rope you trust. Skins that still grip when it matters. Small stuff, until it isn’t.

And here’s the part that’s changed again: gear availability is starting to behave like it used to. The good stuff doesn’t sit around. By the time you need it, there’s a decent chance it’s already gone. Not everywhere, not all at once, but enough that “I’ll grab it later” turns into “guess I’m not going.”

So this is your quiet nudge.

Build your spring kit now. Dial it, test it, throw it all in one place so when the invite comes in for something epic, you’re not the one hesitating because you’re missing something simple.

Spring skiing doesn’t wait around. Neither does your crew.

Wind at your back.

The new Arc’teryx Sylan 2 is built around that feeling. It’s light, responsive, and unmistakably modern underfoot, with a ride that feels quick the moment you start moving.

But this isn’t a fragile speed shoe. Arc’teryx built the Sylan 2 to stay composed when the trail turns rough. The platform is stable, the grip is confident, and the upper keeps things locked down when terrain gets loose or technical. You still get the sense of flow and efficiency, just without giving up the control you need when the trail asks more of you.

Fast when the trail opens up. Capable when it doesn’t.
The kind of shoe that keeps the wind at your back.

Not from this planet. Contact has been made in Canmore. 👽

Skimo’s moment has arrived.
No longer a secret. No longer niche. The world’s biggest stage.

The Scarpa Alien 5.0 is the sharpest expression of the sport right now: absurdly light, uncompromisingly fast, and built for moments that matter.
